Apple uses an SOC (system a on a chip) the ram is on the same chip package as the processor, not on the motherboard like other builders..this means the the acess speed to the ram is exponentially faster than normal PC ram. Most importantly apple controls the entire hardware and software stack. So the OS is incredibly optimized for the hardware. They are literally built for each other. So a PC that may need 16gb of RAM to do a task will only need 8 or less on a Mac.
Same reason iPhones is 4gb of 6gb of RAM while flagship android uses 12 and 16gb.
That being said. 256gb SSD and 8gb or ram WILL limit you with large photo or video tasks. So even though it's a pro. Know it has limits.
You are gaining, fans for cooling vs fan less on the Air, slightly better performance on long running multithreaded tasks.
Be aware the 256 model has only one SSD chip not 2 like the 512gb and above so your SSD speed will be in the 2500Mbs vs 5000ish Mbs. for everyday tasks even light photo and video editing work it will work fine.

Called a Costco in the Seattle area. Was told item was deleted from the system and no inventory in the area.

You are gaining the 14" screen vs 13. A micro LED screen vs ips 120hz refresh vs 60, two more thunder bolt ports, much better speakers, fans for cooling vs fan less on the Air, so it's worth the upgrade for just the screen alone. And more ports.
Be aware the 256 model has only one SSD chip not 2 like the 512gb and above so your SSD speed will be in the 2500Mbs vs 5000ish Mbs. for everyday tasks even light photo and video editing work it's a no brainer.
this is the 13in MacBook pro. this does not have the micro led screen and uses the old body style and non pro m2 chip

I still wouldn't recommend a MacBook Pro 13 M1/M2 at any price as the Air is better. The M2 MacBook Air usually on sale for $899 is better than the 13" MacBook Pro. It is not like you're buying the 14" MacBook Pro with the Pro chipset. The 13" MacBook Pro uses the older chassis and components. It's the same chipset as the Air but the Air M2 is newer, better screen, no touchbar, MagSafe charger, slimmer and lighter.
There's nothing Pro about the 13" that's why Apple killed it when spec for spec, the Air is better.

My local Costco in southern WI had 2022 Model with M2, 256SSD, 8GB, 13 inch on clearance for $799.
Went in to get Macbook air M2 for $1049 but got pro instead.

Costco item number is 1601613 but I could not find the item online.

https://www.costco.com/CatalogSea...rd=1601613
What is the item number for Macbook air M2 for $1049?

It was on Slickdeals from Costco couple of weeks ago for $899. Sale ended but I'm sure they'll be more as the M3 is rolling out.

Sure is cheap, but definitely get what you pay for. 256GB and 8GB is awful. I picked up a 14" 2021 M1 PRO chip 1TB/16GB for $1,200 in December from MicroCenter certified refurb from Apple with 5 cycles on it. Check them near you and see about snagging one. Worth the additional $ over this.

This is highly YMMV; a lot of Costco's have been putting the M2 versions on clearance since December. My friend got the MBP 13" M2 512GB (item# 1601616) for $1100 last month; a MBA M2 512GB (1507126) was $1000. I'm sure prices keep going down if no one buys them.

Thanks for clarifying. That changes things Alot. The air vs 13 pro. Air has same ports but adds magsafe so frees up a port when charging. Air has same screen size, once you figure in the notch but has better color reproduction. Also a slimmer chassis.
M2 runs hot so only advantage is the fan which in testing can gain you 25 percent performance gains with long running multicore work loads.
And you get a touch bar. (Love it or hate it)
If you can find an M2 air for close to that price it's a better deal. But at $799 for an M2 chip. I still think it's a good deal. At least until March and the M3 air is released and the M2s get reduced. Cheers!

I HIGHY recommend apple or Amazon refurbs (see previous SD posts for good sellers) you save a ton and apple refurb is just like brand new! Have 2 apple refurbs and zero issues.
