As the Op said, there have been better deals on 7900 XTX, and likely will be more sales with the Super cards coming out. That said, even at this price, it provides more performance for the price than anything Nvidia will be releasing.
If you waited this long, might as well wait till the release of the SUPERs to see how the market prices adjust. not like AMD will be able to raise prices so worst case scenario, you end up with more options at this price point.

I've had the XTX for a year now and I'd highly suggest waiting. This is $70 off the release price over a year later.. Not a good deal IMO. If AMD doesn't reduce the price to at least $850, the upcoming 4080 super would probably be the better buy. I'd wait for benchmarks and pricing a few weeks after the 4080 super release
This is hardly a deal. Just wait till the Nvidia Super refreshes come out by Jan 31. It should certainly lead to an even greater price decrease on the 7900 XTX.
FWIW, the cheapest I've seen a brand-new 7900 XTX was $799 a couple of weeks ago.

I don't see the 4080 Super as the better buy unless you only care about ray tracing. Even if you can score one at MSRP anytime soon, which isn't guaranteed.
New buyers are better off waiting until 1/31 to see benchmarks of the 4080 Super and likely AMD price cuts to $900 and maybe even a coupon to $850, and screw Newegg.
I bought a used Hellhound 7900 XTX from Amazon Warehouse for $780. Works ok, still testing it as I have some time left before the return period. But I don't think I'll get a better deal.

The leaked benchmarks on the 4080 super aren't very impressive. It will be crazy if people pay over MSRP with any kind of discount on the 7900 xtx.

We'll know which one's the better buy on Jan 31, when the 4080 Super hits retail shelves and all reviewers post their test results and conclusions.
