I am tempted to buy one of these as a spare so I can jailbreak by first unit using AirBreak (site here [airbreak.dev]). I get a lot of CAs and will probably need a bilevel at some point.

Nifty. Had not heard of this. May try it with my spare unit.

Btw, if you have not tried it, gradually increasing the minimum pressure reduced my AHI from about 4 to less than 2 (and was less than 1 this morning). The increase also made it feel easier to breathe. (Mild CSA).

Doesn't look like an easy process. Trying to find online if anyone can perform the jailbreak as a paid service.

What min max setting do you use? Doctor wrote 4 to 20 but I've heard 20 is too much.

I hadn't thought of that, great idea, I will give it a try, thanks!

When I first started CPAP I had EPR turned up to the highest setting (3) for comfort, but that caused lots of central events. I lowered it to 1 and that helped. Now I have turned it off completely and that seems to have helped even more.

Almost all of my apneas are central, and it is sort of managed by CPAP/APAP, but I still wake up a lot of days with AHI in the 20's. My plan is to try VAuto next, and if that does not work move on to BiLevel with a backup rate, and if that fails I will probably end up with ASV.

But the VAuto and BiLevel machines are very expensive and buying them just to test out my theory would be rather expensive. Better to test it with a jailbreak first and then be able to go fight for my best solution with the doctor and insurance.

You can change that yourself. It's in the clinical settings. Once you have a lot of at minimum 7 days. You can check where the machine was at for 95 percent of the time. Then adjust your max to near there +2. Then taper down if you need till you dial yourself in. I self paid but I'm certain the cat chasing it's tail would be the concept with going back and forth with the sleep clinic. Wait till you feel the discomfort from swallowing air and the. Waking up bloated and passing gas. It's not fun. Untill you dial yourself down to propper use

I started at 9 and it was too strong. If you don't have life altering apnea and just snore you can start around there and either raise it or lower it. I'm not a doctor and am only giving anecdotal advice based on my experience. Since you have a prescription you should just ask your doctor. You already are going to save a ton buying a machine from here.

Yes you do need a prescription. Maybe some people here can help explain the process they went through and the clinic costs. Not sure if a sleep clinic is required as it was years ago.

My doctor has ordered a cpap for me. Would this one be covered by the insurance as well? Is is a better option or should I stick to whatever the sleep med center will order for me?

I'm just suspicious of overly inflated prices for medical devices acquired thru my doctor.

First time using a cpap ever.
