the XTX was on a crazy low price deal a little while back. it was like 799. id hold for that if you dont absolutely need a gpu right now

Two significantly better brands as well.

But I would feel like a doofus buying this card when the 6900 XT and even the 6800 XT perform better in far too many titles, or only fall short by less than 10%.

I agree that most wouldn't need to upgrade at this price.

But the RX 6950 XT is, on average, 10–15% slower in rasterization. And the RX 7900 XT matches the RTX 4070 Ti at ray tracing.

I can't find many good comparisons to the 6950XT because it was pretty much a tiny bump over the 6900XT and doesn't seem to be used by a lot of reviewers for the current gen - but 10% faster, on average, than the previous gen top card is not really impressive gen over gen.

I am not an Nvidia fanboy by any means, but I don't know where you're getting your figures from. Here's the TPU review of the RTX 4070 Ti which shows it outperforming the 7900 XT by 10% in ray-tracing https://www.techpowerup.com/revie...uf/34.html
