This is one of the best "bang for the buck" gaming cpu's you can buy. Sure it only has 6 cores but for gaming that is more than enough. Sure you can pay double or triple for cpu's with 10, 12 or more cores but that will only get you good scores on benchmarks and you can brag saying that my cpu is bigger than your cpu LOL.
Now the smart people will take the extra $100 or $200 saved by buying this CPU and using that money to get a better GPU which is more important to gaming.
If you want to laugh, look at the scores in head to head gaming with the 5600 vs the 5700 or 5800 and smile when the FPS is less than 5% different.
As far as DDR4 vs DDR5. That is another win for saving some money. For gaming, that DDR5 will get you maybe another 5% fps but cost you almost double what DDR4 costs.
So save $100 on your ram and $100 or $200 on this chip and take that $200 or $300 and get a better GPU. Sure that $200 or $300 will get you an extra 10 percent in FPS but does it really matter if you get "only" 60fps vs 66fps (10% boost) or 120fps vs 132fps?
Now if money is not an issue then get the best of the best of the best but smart gamers know what is important and what is not.

Yeah, if you do go AMD at this point, start with an AM5 chip (Ryzen 7) so you have those upgrade options.
I currently have an AM4 board running a Ryzen 3, so this would be a good deal.

Great advice as usual from everyone. I actually went ahead and pulled the trigger on this. So I've made the switch. I figured going from a 4th gen haswell chip to anything made in the last decade will probably blow my socks off so I might as well go with what's cheaper.

I got the 5600x during Black Friday for about $130, so this seems like a good deal.
I paired it with a 6700xt gpu. I stream on tiktok and game a lot. You might need a cpu cooler for this for more intense game but the games I've played (grand strategy, Overwatch and some others) run excellent.

Make sure the ram you buy is rated for 3600mhz and not slower, because that speed matches the infinity clock value for the cpu, and there are rarely any gains from going faster.

I did the same thing you did, going from a Haswell i5 to a Ryzen 5 5600. It's definitely a noticeable upgrade, especially when you include a fast NVMe SSD. Not having an upgrade path isn't a huge deal when you only upgrade your CPU about once every 8-9 years.

BTW the x version is identical to the non-x (5600 vs 5600x) but it's clocked a bit higher. Something you can do yourself in your MB settings.
