no lasers! just inkjet crap which will get ruined if you don't print at least once every 30 days!
I think the days of lasers being automatically better is over. The ink tank models have a dramatically lower cost per page even if you factor the occasional print head cleaning.

The EcoTank canisters are cheap to replace, and get THOUSANDS of pages per canister. I ordered an ET-2800 yesterday because the reviews showed a very economic printer to operate.
Kind of a weird rebate, to be honest. I really wish they just applied it to the cost instead. Thanks for the post though. I've been looking for a cheap color printer, this may win. I wonder if Costco will have similar discounts.
Modern inkjet printers try and grab $$$$$ from you in ink cartridges, and hp etc have started locking users into oem only.
Just an evil thing.
Best to verify you can use alternative cartridges before buying.
Epson now does the same thing for their inkjet printers that use cartridges. You will notice all those printers have a big gold graphic that says something like "Designed for Epson Ink" which means "Will only work with Epson Ink Cartridges". They started pushing firmware updates that lock out compatible cartridges.
Eco-tank printers don't have that limitation as you literally refill permanent tanks with bottles of ink. No way for Epson to tell whether you are using real Epson ink or compatible ink. But, to be honest, the bottles of ink are not expensive and might be worth sticking with the quality inks instead of saving a few dollars.

Can anyone recommend a printer less than 100$ that's not HP and is a good reliable printer with ink that doesn't cost crazy money?
To be honest, cheap and reliable are not typically used in the same sentence. If you want a reliable printer that will last, spend a little bit more. If you choose inkjet over laser, do yourself a favor and choose a tank-style printer which gives you 10x more pages per refill than cartridges and look at the club stores (Sam's or Costco) for a deal as they give you even more ink in the box than places like Staples and Amazon.
I'd say this Amazon deal for the Epson EcoTank ET-2800 is your best bet for $140 net cost (assuming you don't need a document feeder for the scanner).
If you want a document feeder and a tank printer, look at the Brother MFC-J4345DWXL INKvestment Tank All-in-One Color Inkjet Printer at Sam's Club and Costco for $159.
