I do not recommend Spectrum Mobile. They are an MVNO on Verizon towers and when the network is congested, you have little to no connection because your priority is so low. There is also no upgrade option for a prioritized connection. I dropped them after 1 month.
I test with the following tiv samsung phones:

A14 $714
A54 $770
S23fe $880
S23+ $994
Trade in my Google Pixel 6A for $757 that I originally got from metro for $50 years ago. Makes this a true slickdeal 🫡

I did not purchase the Walmart one myself, but I think it is this one:

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Straight-Talk-Motorola-Moto-G-Play-2023-32GB-Black-Prepaid-Smartphone-Loc... [walmart.com]

I would guess there is some sort of security protocol in place probably needing an ID of account holder or authorized user, otherwise people could just walk in and steal people's accounts. You could check with Spectrum to see if you can be added as authorized user but I am not sure their specific mobile security policies.

If you have the option to upgrade then it could save you on the cost of opening a second line. I have not yet seen anybody report what happens if you remove the S24 from your account before the 60 days in terms of whether you can still unlock after 60 days. I would imagine if your phone is paid off and account is in good standing you should still be able to, but probably not best to assume this is the case.
Thanks, can someone who brought the tracfone or straight talk moto g play 2023 help me with the purchase process. I read about the Walmart rep not scan something. Not clear on how to make sure the phone is good before leaving the store. Plan to trade in Spectrum store to avoid the delay in shipping and get tax advantage on $100 instead of $800.

My dates changed a few times this week. I got the trade in accepted email from spectrum this morning on the 8th and the trade in website updated a few hours ago to show accepted. $0 still in my account, hopefully the money shows up overnight.

have electronics/phone person scan the two bar codes (it says scan them on the box). then go online on straight talks website and try to activate with the IMEI and SIM #. Minimum IMEI #. If you don't get IMEI error on the site then you should be fine

Thanks. So i will do that in front of the rep right after the scan.
Also just to clear, i purchase only the phone ($39) and dont need to purchase a plan correct? The above steps sets the phone up for a plan activation later, i presume..

Don't buy a plan unless you want an extra layer of security. Just make sure you can activate online before leaving store

I was holding off on opening the new phone until the credit was complete but it seems that Spectrum might charge the $50 restocking fee even if you leave it unopened, could be wrong but not sure waiting to open/activate really matters.

You mean it is still moving around? My showed it was stuck in Coppell for many days, still shows as in Coppell and undelivered even a couple of days now after the credit was issued. Assurant even seems to have received it a couple of days before they issued the credit. USPS just seems to have decided to just not scan the delivery of thousands of packages.

Interestingly, one other time that I have seen USPS not scan deliveries is with the IRS. I had to mail in a tax document and shipped it with delivery confirmation. Got to the destination quickly but they never marked it as delivered. I filed missing mail report and everything and nothing came of it. USPS just said sometimes when it is tax season they do not get around to scanning all the deliveries. This should not be permitted. Even if it takes them a day or two longer to deliver they should properly scan deliveries, especially if you are paying for service with tracking/delivery confirmation. I would argue not doing delivery scans is a form of fraud, but especially when it is part of the service that is being paid for.
Just got off with a Spectrum agent and confirmed no restocking fee if the box is still sealed. I unfortunately am in the cancellation scenario where my trade in already got approved but the order was cancelled so now I'm stuck with no phone and doubt I'll ever see my old phone again. Thankfully it's a really old Pixel that aint worth much but still pretty pissed about how poorly they are handling this. I'm gonna get the Moto burner and try the in store trade in route to still take advantage of the $700 promo while it lasts. Rep said it should run till the end of this month.

Good to know. I read that it said if it was restocking fee for opened, but then elsewhere it just said restocking fee for returns. I read on random social media sites that people were charged restocking fee even for closed devices. So probably best to err on the side of not opening it then, but with Spectrum you never know how things will actually play out. That is crazy that they are not honoring the promotion even though you did not cancel the order and they accepted the trade in. You could try escalating to a manger or filing a complaint with the BBB or something. But the path of least resistance would be to just take the trade in value of the device you sent in and do the deal again in store with some other cheap device.

Last year I did the deal with S23 several months after it was launched. They were doing a $600 trade in promotion at the time. I think the net cost ended up being similar. So unless they are changing things this year probably no rush to jump on this deal since they will probably continue running promotions like this. The hype here was just that it was a new phone launch and the did double storage with preorder, but Spectrum has not been making these promotions very limited.

What kind of phone did you order that got canceled? Did they say why it was canceled?

As long as the IMEI is coming up clean and the device is paid off then it should be fine. The recent issue appears to be related specifically to Walmart not properly scanning devices as being purchased. Since there is no benefit anymore to purchasing online (i.e. no more free double storage) if you can just do it in store then they can just process your trade in at that time and save you from any uncertainty. If you do purchase it online it sounds like Assurant is getting caught up with trade ins and you might just want to keep your new phone in the package in case there is any issue with the trade in.

One potential perk to buying online versus in store is that you can purchase with a credit card online and then have the trade in credit sent to a different card (such as debit), which can have perks in terms of CC rewards. If you purchase in store and they apply the discount immediately then you cannot do this. Several people are now confirming that tax is being refunded with online purchases once the trade in is processed, it does not appear the lower tax thing is really an in store perk.

Wow
I went to try to do this my old 6s plus iphone that was unlocked before my amazon order arrive and gotta say it was sooo easy. Took 20 minutes in and out.
799-705 + plus activiation/fees/tax came out to 120.75 out the door.

Thinking of getting another s24 when my amazon phone arrives, hopefully its the same process!
