I am not saying one cannot flip the S24 for another S24, but if one is truly trying to optimize return then you can do better by selling the S24 elsewhere rather than sending it in to Assurant for another S24. You can always just send in a cheap $30-40 if you want to get another S24, you do not have to send in a new S24.
I am assuming they would refund it all as long as the device is paid in full, but would like confirmation from somebody who has done it.
I have a question about in store trade in. Anyone has luck in trade in of phone that's not listed? If yes, did you get the credit back?
My store guy tells me that they ship the trade in phone and it takes 2-3 days to approve the trade in.

So yeah, not worth doing through the mail. But definitely in store.
Received 02/08, got email today its successfully passed for $1100 credit.
- Traded in Xiomi A1 old international phone* .. valuated to 7$
- $999.99 + 75$ (local sales tax) - $700 (Trade in Discount) -$7 +$20 (new line activation fee) = $387.99 is the total price charged to credit card.
Points noted:
*yes, it seems any brand phone is acceptable at stores. Since he couldn't select this company, he randomly chose some cheaper Samsung phone model name but entered this Xiaomi IMEI number.\
He collected trade-in the phone then there itself. When I asked a question if the brand mismatch would violate trade-in, he said not to worry as my $700 has already been redeemed.
He said locked (to any carrier) phone is not a problem.
Also it seems mostly, Stores will get only the base storage pieces ( S24-128GB S24+ - 256 GB etc.) in stock due to high online demand for higher memory pieces.
Hope this information is helpful.

Also curious how successful people are going to be trying to trade in S24s in Spectrum stores for other S24s.
