I do not recommend Spectrum Mobile. They are an MVNO on Verizon towers and when the network is congested, you have little to no connection because your priority is so low. There is also no upgrade option for a prioritized connection. I dropped them after 1 month.
I test with the following tiv samsung phones:

A14 $714
A54 $770
S23fe $880
S23+ $994
Trade in my Google Pixel 6A for $757 that I originally got from metro for $50 years ago. Makes this a true slickdeal 🫡

Did you do all of this on four separate lines? So the store blocked you and told you to order online but then online blocked your order and said you had to go upload ID at the store? And then you have to place the order online again?

My second order was automatically cleared and it is in the confirmed stage.

Yeah I got 2 phones. They opened the first one but I convinced them not to open the second one. They were hesitant, saying they don't want these resold on the Internet. I told them I don't want to get hit with the restocking fee if opened in case I change I mind and want to return it later. They couldn't argue with that one.

That's a good reason to tell dumb in-store spectrum agents. The phones are sealed when you order them online too. I always tell the in-store agents that I'll do my own activation when I get home; they don't seem to have any issues so far.
Their excuse does not make sense anyway since opening the box does not stop somebody from being able to sell the device.

That being said, even if you are planning to sell the phone, it is generally a good idea to open the box while within the return window and test the phone and make sure it works and does not have any defects. If you sell a sealed phone and the recipient claims that it is broken or does not work or one of many other nonsense issues they can claim then there will be little recourse you have. Scammers know this and often target sealed devices since they know you do not have any documentation (photos/videos) of the device inside.

Also, if you are planning to have the phone unlocked, the only way to verify is to open and turn on the phone and see the message pop up that it is unlocked.

This 100%... The last 7 phones from them in store, told them directly that I will activate at home. leaving no room for them to give me any BS as it's possible. All they do is type and click a few buttons on their computer screen and it's done.

I hate misrepresenting the condition of phones, and marking it "new", when it's opened. However, there's no real surefire way of ensuring it's unlocked, it works, etc.

Most people have never cared enough to say anything (i.e. "but the listing said it's new").

Who are they to tell you not to resell them? You are buying a product and a service. If you choose not to use that service but are still paying for it, you'd think that would be better for them? Smh

When I did my trades in store, I told them do not open the phone box and just make sure activate the sim card (I refused esim), and phone without open the box, but they said they have to open the box and insert the sim for me, no choice.
They went through all settings to test the phone is working properly.
I had to do a factory reset again when I got home

Bummer, it sounds like I can't get my phone line activated without opening the box then.

I just want a SIM to pop into my phone, and give the new, sealed phone to my cousin for her birthday (and pay my debt). She can use her Spectrum account on it; was hoping not to have to gift an open box.

Speaking of SIM, any way to get a SIM vs eSIM when ordering?

I am not sure for in store, but for online orders the line/billing automatically activates after 7 days if you do not turn on the phone. Online orders only give option of eSIM for S24s. The issue with not turning on the phone is that reportedly now you have to wait 60 days from when the phone is first activated to unlock it.

The reason why Spectrum would not want it is because these deals are intended to bring in new customers to using their mobile service. If you are just doing it to get their phones for cheap and not use their service then it defeats the purpose of these promotions. But I agree with your point, once they agree to sell you the item then it is not up to them to dictate what you can do. They can deny selling you the phone but once they agree to sell it then it is not up to them to dictate what you do with it.

I cannot say how long they will do it this year since a lot more people seem to be abusing the deal with accounts getting banned and store employees noticing, but last year S23 deals ran at least through April/Mary.

And yes, I think unless the marketplace specifically states the "New" means "sealed" then there is not be an issue as long as you make it clear in the pictures and description that it is new but opened to make sure it works. Most people selling unopened will say "sealed" in title. Legitimate buyers will likely scrutinize the pictures and device to make sure it actually looks brand new and the box being opened will be less important since they were just going to open it anyway.

Give them a call or chat. They see it on the back end. But this agent was unwilling to give me immediate refund, saying refund has to be at the end of the billing cycle. I'll try someone else.

I tried in 3 separate stores today in Austin, all of them rejected the trade in.

couple of stores rejected saying phone is still locked whereas one store was just bluffing that they were not able to pull my account or my account was locked.

Yes, I had problem with the first one too. Chat representative refunded me to my credit card but that amount was added to my next bill. So, I called them again, I was told that bill will adjust after bill closing date( Feb 22).

Yes, my bill auto updated to the correct amount once the new billing period started ( that was yesterday).
