Same. TurboTax attempts to simplify the process by creating cartoonish situations that take forever to click through and before you know it, you're 5 pop-ups deep to get to an answer that should have been on the first window. HR Block is the way to go if you have limited patience. 😁

My hesitation with any of these online services is that they retain all of your info for 8 or more years, which means any future breaches will include absolutely everything needed for someone trying to steal your tax return, since normally the IRS will verify it's you by asking for info from a previous return.

It's a big target and I don't trust these companies to keep the data secure if they're storing it.

Is this deal better than Turbotax? Which one is easy to use Turbo or H&R?

Why pay for the state when it still costs $15 to submit it online

Because when you do it in the software it takes couple of clicks after you do your federal to get your state tax done. I used to prepare my state tax in the software and then e-file it on the state website to avoid the cost (for me it's $20 for e-file). Now I just pay the e-file fee to get it over with. It's really choice though whether you want to spend time fiddling around the state website or be done in few minutes.

Does CashApp still offer free federal and state filing? I've been using them for a couple of years with no issue.

Does anyone know if we must choose one or the other (Mac, PC) at the time of purchase? It's January now, and most people probably won't be working on the tax until later (may be March or so), and what if we change the computer (say from PC to Mac or vice versa) by the time that we need to use the software for tax?

I bought it last year for 2022 and was able to download both Windows and Mac versions.

Good to know! Thank you and repped! Do we have to download right away after you purchase? And did you download the PC version to a PC, and a Mac version to a Mac? I don't know which computer (PC or Mac) I will be getting/using in March thus wondering.

I'm also wondering the same. I think it's time for me to make the switch from TT. Used it for 15 plus years but this is half the price. Too bad they didn't give a loyalty discount

Old school, print out the state and mail it first-class $0.65 I think

I've been using freetaxusa.com for a few years now and it works just as well, and costs less out the door to file both federal and state

Check out H&R's free file option before buying.
