As someone from a Korean household, I love this thing for making bingsoo (Korean style shaved ice). Bingsoo is usually finer texture than snowcone. A lot of hand ice shavers on Amazon shaves close to snow cone. Kitchenaid shaves somewhere in between but closer to bingsoo. You can mix milk/water before freezing to make finer texture.

You can also use it for making the cold noodle (neng myun) instead of shaving pure ice, shave frozen broth.

Actually you don't need extra molds as long as you plan ahead. You can pop them off and store them in a zip lock bag in the freezer then go on to the next batch.

Yes, I have one and it is good during summertime. Just make sure you purchase extra Molds for ice.

It is not as fine as a commercially made snow cone, but it is definitely better than most of the standalone units around the same price point. It should meet any reasonable expectations.

If you have the Ninja blender, give it a try. I've use it more than a year and working great.

It's really good, and you can just use ice cubes out the fridge, don't need to freeze a puck

I have this, my kids love it. It's a little coarse but makes good snow cones. Not like fresh fallen powder, but not jaggedy.

Looks like I bought this last year for what has become the regularly scheduled sale price of 74.99. I have only used it once and the finest setting was not very fine. I don't think it's worth $68, either, but my brain is stubborn and won't adjust to the inflated prices of nearly everything.

What's the advantage of purchasing directly from Kitchen Aid from a consumer standpoint besides the guarantee that it's authentic (is that really a concern here)? Returns are much easier with Amazon.

Not quite as fine as real shave ice but close enough to hit the spot and you can flavor the ice.

I have a vitamix (for all the people claiming a ninja can do just as well) and it doesn't make ice anywhere close to this fine it's more like snow cone consistency at best and really it's more llike the ice you get from sonic.
