If they are not made in Japan they are not worth buying. Huge quality difference. I have eneloops that are 18 years old that still work great!

There is a specific factory in Japan that Fujitsu now owns (FDK), they make the best NiMH batteries in the world--aka the gold standard. I have some Fujitsu ones. Panasonic licenses out of that factory via Eneloop, so does Ikea. Ikea Ladda are equivalent of Eneloop Pro, so if you have one of those in your hood those are probably the best batteries/price ratio I could ever find. I 100% agree on your statement I have Eneloops over 10 years old still clicking, and EARLY made in Japan Amazon ones before they put them in some nameless factory in the jungle somewhere to the lowest bidder who I am sure employs 100% proper labor standards and environmental disposal.

However at a < buck a battery the Amazon ones if they last 5 years, well I guess that isn't bad and the discharge/IR (Internal resistance) doesn't pop it will be lower lifetime cost than an Eneloop because of the obvious made in a legit factory cost more $$$. With that said a 1 year warranty isn't exactly awe inspiring, at that warranty getting disposable AA seems to be a better deal.

These are actually decent value, they are much better than random chinese brands. The japanese batteries are very expensive.

I know I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but these are rechargeable batteries. Why does Amazon offer them on subscribe and save? Do they think you'll toss them when they need charging?

They're good batteries, though. I have some I rotate through a 1 cell AAA flashlight I wear on a chain. They don't last like alkaline, but they're easier on the wallet once you recharge them a few times.

Mine did not, and the link doesn't mention one. I bought a cheap-ish smart charger that I can use for multiple types of batteries, including 18650s, for my very bright flashlights. It does a great job on these, too.

I see that you noticed that these are AAAs instead of double A's, and won't work. But to answer your question, Amazon rechargeable AA do work just fine for Xbox controllers.

All of the amazonbasics rechargeables I received in recent years were made in China. While there is substantial quality difference, they are less than half the price per a Japan made battery. Some people say there is a few DoA in a pack and others can be dead within a few charge cycles. Not a heavy battery user but among 20-30 I keep using I have not noticed that behavior yet, so I would still buy it if I didn't have too many.

If you have a good battery charger that measures internal resistance and capacity added (with a refresh cycle), you can see how they degrade much faster than an Eneloop. So while they are working "technically" their SOC will drop to 70-80 2-3x faster than an eneloop and they also lose capacity. That becomes an issue for longevity but also there are many electronics that like higher voltages and either you use a 1.5V alkaline, or a higher quality MIJ battery else you are going to get frustrated by greater swaps.

Then there is the environmental consideration (if you care). If you need to replace MIC batteries 2-3x more than the MIJ batteries you are adding 3x the waste into the environment. Granted most people don't care, but as I get older I look at these things more carefully and will pay more for a more sustainable product where it makes sense.

It's been 5 years since i keep hearing about Japanese, Eneloops, Amazon, Ikea, which factory produced what and when, and how your's are 18 years and keep on ticking. So i've been holding out for a good deal on the promised ones and yet to buy anything!!!
