Love these. Bought them 6 months ago.

Clamp force was tight, as someone pointed out in the comments, but you can safely stretch the metal parts of the sides of the headband and that will reduce the pressure of these in the head. Also, you can stretch them back to the opposite side and they will be just as before, if you overdid it. I can now use them for hours.

When I first bought them I felt they weren't anything special, since they lack in the bass department and also in the treble compared to many consumer headphones. But after getting used to them and rediscovering my music library (hearing things that I couldn't hear before) I can't stop wanting to listen to music everyday through them. They're specially great for music with with acoustic instruments, for jazz, for music with vocals.

Even though they're also limited in the soundstage, you might be wondering as I first did "how can these be any good when they're lacking in so many areas". I think that's because they somehow emphasize through their excellent mids the best qualities of most music. Also the "narrow soundstage" makes music feel really intimate.

I'd recommend them to people that are willing to have some patience while their brain adjusts to these. I didn't have any choice to return them since I exported them but I think I'd probably have done it if I was in the US because at first I was underwhelmed. Nevertheless, I'm now very glad to have them and will be listening to music through them for years!

I own both. This one is dynamic drivers and the Hifiman Edition XS is magnetic planar. You can definitely hear more details in the XS, and the HD 6XX has the "Sennheiser veil" (although you won't notice this unless you have other clearer sounding headphones…). However, some people are more sensitive to sibilant sounds, so HD 6XX may provide more comfortable listening session than the XS if you wear your headphones for long hours. Also, HD 6XX is lighter and smaller than the XS, so if you have a weak neck go for the HD 6XX. They both need a headphone amplifier to reach their full potential.

I happen to get it to work today, but i was trying for several days with nothing. Glad it didnt work before, because I got a better discount, plus the coupon. I have the hd650 so i know these will be awesome. Some say they are the same, some same different, im in the different camp, but its still an exceptional value

One thing I don't like about them is that the amount of pressure. I was hoping I'll get used to it, but still feels like my head is going to implode.

I assume it is the same as 58x -- just bend the metal part a bit

My favorite pair of headphones. I think they win for best bang for the buck.

For those who know more... How much would you have to spend to get a noticable step up from these ? Hifiman? Planar ?

interesting. these are going for the same price as the 58x jubilee's were going for years ago when i bought a pair. i wonder how big a difference there is between the two of them? the 58x's are also currently going for 149.99, in case anyone cares. i love my 58x's personally.
