Do any of its features rely on cloud services? Can you setup/use it on WiFi only, and not just watering when internet is temporary down?

I have rainbird with wifi and i use iPhone app to maintain everything from it. Is it worth to move to Rachio 3? What does it do better than rainbird

I believe these connect with HomeKit as well, which is nice if Rachio decides to go out of business tomorrow, you can still water from the home app

If I didn't own one, I'd be in for one at this price.

Ironically, as soon as Rachio officially dropped HomeKit support for these, iOS 17.x came out and seemingly fixed all my issues with this.

These days it only disappears if I switch my HK hub more than a few times in rapid succession.

But if I'm being honest: I rarely use the HK integration. It's mostly a set it and forget it thing for me. The lone exception to that is if it's really hot one day, I might run a "hey Siri, water the garden for 6 minutes" during the day.

I have a rain machine that started charging subscriptions when not on home wifi, does this truly work from anywhere? If so, I'll jump and send this rainMachine back to them to make a point and a copy of my invoice for my replacement.

Is it easy to install ourselves or do we need to hire someone to do it? If yes, any idea how much it would cost for installation?

Had an old school Rainbird system. Easy to make the switch and wouldn't go back. The app is easy to use and allows to create schedules etc. Also, can manually run from the controller if ever needed. Love mine and this is a good price with Costco backing.

If you already have a watering system setup it was easy to switch to this. Plenty of youtube videos out there that can walk you through it as well if you're not comfortable with their walk through.

It's easy enough if you already have an automatic watering system in place. I used it to replace my 15+ years old controller. Took me about 20 mins to connect and program.

Yes, you can access it from anywhere using their app and they don't have a subscription.
