So the tcl tv 4k is not 4k. You spend thousands of dollars for it and it only goes to 1080p. The only way you get the 4k is to pay more money $7.50 per month subscription to actually watch what you thought you were already paying for when u bought it. What a rip off.

edit: lol to those down voting, I was only pointing out the silliness of the review, not attempting to give it merit. Reviewer was an idiot. This is why I always read all the 1 star reviews. Half will be some nut like this, the other half complaining how FedEx drop kicked it at some point during delivery and it arrived broken. My bad for not being clear why I posted it.

I bought this at launch. No, it doesn't have full array local dimming. But it has just about every other bell and whistle imaginable.

This is an awesome deal at $500 less than what it was running through the holidays.

If you're contemplating anything larger than an 85 and not quite interested in a projector, this is hands down the way to go.
What about the viewing angle?

Looking for a TV that's a little over 100", but the price for this is making me think 98" is the sweet spot in terms of price.

I'm just scared of this brand, I've only bought Sony and Samsung TVs.

Hope all the people who bought in at $2500 can get that $500 refunded. I know Amazon doesn't do any price matching though, so it would have to be another store matching Amazon's new price.

Note that this is a 5 series, flagship series for TCL & Hisense is 8 series. This is pretty far down the ladder in terms of picture quality.

The Hisense U8K 100" at $3000 is still likely a better deal due to picture quality.

RTINGS didn't review the S5 in 2023, and you can't use 2022 S5 as reference (because in 2022 the 5 series was one step below the 6 series flagship). TCL redid their series/model numbers in 2023 to align with what the competition does (4/5/6/7/8 series).

You're probably talking about a TV that would score 6.5/10 versus one that would score 8.5/10.

I saw this, and it's ridiculous. Smooth brain is talking about the TCL TV APP built into the unit.

Does not mean that 3840x2160p resolution (for literally everything else) is somehow locked behind an 8 dollar paywall.

How are they still in business? Good job!

I believe he's referring to shipping being expensive when purchasing through Brandsmart... if you are not near one of their B & M locations. (i.e. $190 shipping to my location in SE NC)

That's why they ARE in business.

Lots of idiots just buy things because it's "FREE" shipping so they can "try it" only to return them.

Very Tight margins on TV's and electronics, add in storage and handling(labor). EEK!
ZERO reason to ship if you have a great customer base.

Try getting a quote to ship this size box with any carrier and you will be amazed at how expensive it is.
Don't come back and say Blah Blah Blah but they get a discount.

Dimensions (Boxed)
Height 56.3 in
Width 93.9 in
Weight 176 lbs 3.2 oz
Depth 9.6 in

I've also read it's not great with games/films/HDR/DV, which sadly killed it for me. Doesn't help there are next to no reviews. If your a casual watcher, and don't really care about messing w/settings/calibrating your picture, and just want to hit play n go, this'll be perfect and that price is insane.

I just ordered one. I'm in the middle. I'm a casual watcher but a bit on the picky side. It'll be used for movies at night mostly. I'll check back once set up.

Update*- TV arrived undamaged. The box was perfect. 2 delivery drivers. They set it inside my front door and went on their way. Unboxed and set up in the basement. It's heavy.

The picture is actually pretty darn good for my eyes. Not OLED good, but more than good enough. I played with the pictures setting just a bit. It was pretty good right out of the box. Dark scenes in movies are a little dark but by no means too dark. Nothing blurry, no dead pixels.

I'm by no means a TV snob not an expert reviewer but I can say for $2,000 this was a no brainer for me.

I purchased one of these for the previous $2499 price from Amazon. Didn't expect it to go even cheaper so fast.

I wouldn't say that it's not great with HDR/DV necessarily. It just doesn't have the ability to get very bright due to the lack of dimming zones. This means that if your content is dark, it doesn't look as good. Honestly, though there are many TVs out there that don't do well with dark content. It doesn't look any worse than my previous 65" as far as that is concerned.

It came down to whether it was worth it to me to get into the 98" space for $2500. For me, it was a resounding yes. Considering that to get something that is really good at this size, I'm looking at a lot more money. Hopefully at some point the price for a TV like that will be in my price range. But until then, I can enjoy the size of this screen which looks great for most of the content that I watch and deal with the marginal dark content performance that is no worse than what I had before.

If you're an enthusiast that is looking for OLED performance, this TV probably won't do it for you. But you will be spending a lot more money for a lot less than 98" for some time to come. Guess it just depends on your priorities.

Searched and couldn't find an answer. Do you know if it has any HDMI 2.1 slots? Smilie
