Just did a PC Part Picket test... Even if you bought the cheapest B650/X670/B760/Z790 WiFi mother board & case & 750+W PSU, you would still pay more than this combo. It got me to $220, including bottom-of-the-barrel brands.

So, in my book, this is a decent deal.

Add AMD 8700G and 6000 RAM and you get a decent gaming PC without buying a GPU

$179 for the cheapest AM5 processor (and not a bad one, either). Add RAM for $80 or so and you are set for $460.(+ tax... actually, this isn't exactly a steal). Also note that there is an Intel equivalent to this setup that is also on sale for $200.

for anything but gaming, since there's no GPU, which may well be the most expensive single part.
Need something to store the OS on too, nvme or ssd

8700G is a $400 CPU... Hardly a budget buy.

Not $400 suggested retail is $329.

Both Intel and AMD OOS in Dallas for the $200 combo. $399 combo looks like 1 Intel in stock.

This looks like a good deal but I have built Intel systems for decades and I always get confused by the AMD CPU and MB parts. How do you identify the generation and processing power of an AMD CPU? Do sockets change like underwear as with Intel or is AM5 the latest? Is there a chipset component in performance and features like Intel? How does memory type change performance? It taxes my little brain to keep up with Intel and I can't seem to do the same with AMD.
AM4 has competed against four Intel sockets, and including Skylake and Raptor Lake, it will have fought eight Intel CPU generations.

Anyone know how loud this case is with PS? I'm looking for quiet case/setup. No gaming. Just office work and photoshop.
The case isn't what's loud. It's the fans/cooling system you build. However, this is a pretty decent sized case so airflow is much better and allows for it to cool better and thus allows fans to run at more quieter speeds. The smaller the case you go the harder the fans will have to work to keep it cool.

They missed the more obvious names of Storm Shadow or Snow Job.

Beauty of a link.

Good luck!

You have two hard drives listed, you just need one form of storage. You can use nvme or ssd, i would suggest nvme for simplicity and speed. Yes, you need an OS like Windows. Keyboard, mouse and monitor. Yes, RAM and CPU, AMD has some options that come with cooler and the thermal paste pre applied, do that its easier. Video cards are a matter of personal preference and budget. Radeon tends to be best bang for the buck but Geforce is more stable and usually more popular. Intel now has options but very new to the game. For most part, you get what you pay for. I personally use Radeon 6600 and 6700 for my kids.

Thanks so much I was wondering do you know of any deals that would work with this specific setup for ram and cpu that would have some longevity. Perhaps a deal from micro center as that's where I'm headed this afternoon. Thanks again for your initial response I don't expect you to spend heaps of time researching deals just wanted to make sure I'm getting a cpu and ram and hard drive that will "fit" for starters. Thanks !

it's $329 but I know Microcenter gonna sell it for $300 or so when it's available.
It's basically a R7 7700 with GTX 1060 6GB performance all at 65W TDP

You can always buy a GPU for it later on too.
Where? B&H is OOS and I can't find elsewhere.

considering buying this for a NAS setup. I don't need it for PLEX or anything, I just want my files connected to the network and I want to be able to VPN in from remote locations to access my files. Is this better/more cost efficient/easier to setup, or should I just bite the bullet and buy a QNAP or Synology. I'm not completely tech-ignorant, but I have no experience in setting up any sort of NAS. Basically I can follow googled instructions, but might not be able to troubleshoot efficiently. Any suggestions/recommendations internet people?

oh and I'm hoping to run it in a RAID format so that I have some redundancy/backup file protection. I have a lot of music production samples and also photos/videos that I'd be using this for

If you get the 8700G, then it could actually be used for gaming.
