You can get a 4060 Lenovo Legion 5 easily from AntOnline via eBay for a similar price to this laptop. Hence why I said the Dell G-series was poor value last time...

I thought the exact same thing, if this was a 4060 this would be a solid deal. I have the G15 with a 3070 and want to upgrade.

Well.. its the bottom of Nvidia's current generation. And in a laptop version. But it will run most games at least OK Depends on what your expectation and needs are.

Here's a video someone captured benchmarks in various games on a 4050 in laptop.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ja021gcMHYQ
that video was ran on an Acer laptop with same 4050 video, so not exact same laptop but should be fairly similar gaming performance.

The 4060 is only available with the 13900 which bumps this up to $1550 before discount. Seems a bit much considering the rest of the build.

Exactly. The G16 7620 (with i7-12700H & 3060) was $850 a couple of weeks back and this is $1000. Other than the processor and GPU, everything else is the same. So, for $150 more it actually seems like a slight downgrade. Should have been the 4060 in this.

Wouldn't be much of an upgrade. Normally the next gen GPU is equivalent to last gen's tier up. So it is quite comparable, all you get is frame gen and a few other minor features.

Also the Dell G15/16 is Dell's budget laptop, the overall quality would stay the same or decrease... (if you mean Asus G15)

It was last year. On Black Friday / Cyber Monday the Omen 15 had a 4060 after AMEX discounts for $750. However, I do agree after the holiday season prices go back up so it's harder to find them.

Any thoughts on the value if you include the 10% off and the $120 off with the Amex cash back?

I'm surprised that nobody has called this out yet: this i7 core with the 4050 gpu, you would never be able to push any game to 240hz at that native QHD res, you either have to set all graphic settings to low or to max out the ram and hope for the best.
