Overpriced. Just get a normal electric kettle and a separate gooseneck kettle for a fraction of the price. Boil your water in the electric kettle, pour into a smaller gooseneck kettle for your pour over.
No temp control and you lose some water temp in the transfer

My friend is a pour over freak. I got him a PerfecTemp for $20 as a gift and he got a stainless steel gooseneck kettle off Amazon for $11. His desired temp is usually between 165 and 175, so he runs the electric kettle at 180 and transfers to the gooseneck kettle to get in the desired range.

His wife uses the electric kettle for other purposes like blanching veggies when the stovetop is occupied and she generally values her time.

I just threw up a little in my mouth. laugh out loud There's definitely a place for accurate temperature, especially if you are going for a specific profile, but it's hard to imagine anything (other than a green tea) brewing effectively at such a low temperature. After going through 70F grounds and into a non- or only semi-preheated mug, I'm not sure that would even be hot enough to drink.

IMO, the best thing this has going for it is the 1500W element. It's the only thing I don't like about my $25 bodum which is only 800W. Next time I'm in the UK I intend to pick up a 240v/3000W kettle and a type G receptacle and just rewire an outlet for it. Life's too short to wait for water to boil.

Why this? Costco and Sam's usually sell a glass water heater/boiler for 30-40$

Or better yet, just microwave the cup of water.

pour over has got the be the most pointless way to make coffee.
a $20-$30 french press or percolator can do a far better job of it.
Why would I want to waste the extra time to make inferior coffee in either one and incur additional cleanup time when I can just pour it over the grinds and into the cup?

Any kettle without a plastic piece inside or on the lid inside. I just dont have a good feeling with hot water and plastic or silicon together.

A younger, less experienced me would scoff at a $70 electric kettle. However, after having multiple $20 kettles fail, "stainless" stovetop kettles rust and discolor weirdly, and a $60 Krups kettle work really well (but seems to no longer allow changing the set temperature and is discontinued) at work, I have seen the light.

I am done with fly by night Amazon Chinese brands for things like this. My next Kettle probably will be something like this or from Bonavita/Ninja. My current Bodum kettle randomly pees on my kitchen counter when not in use, but I think my wife might be ignoring the max fill line.

tldr; Buying a $100 kettle in 2016 would have saved me money and a bunch of waste/inconvenience.

I got this kettle in 2018 and have used it just about everyday since. At the end of 2022, it stopped heating. I called Oxo and they sent me a brand new one! Just had to send the old one back in the box from the new one. Already liked Oxo but was really impressed by their customer service

I had this back around 2020 before OXO discontinued the line. After about a year of use the handle fell off. It was welded by 2 weak points. Many of the amazon reviews mention this issue. But it looks like OXO took note recently & revised the handle design.

Dang! Mine did the same (also from 2018) and they gave me a 25% off code haha. I happily bought another since I love it so much. I like it more than the comparable Bonavita as I find the Oxo's controls more intuitive. I use this, conservatively, likely 500+ times per year since I do pourovers and have a manual lever espresso machine.

I mean…some purchases are for convenience, right? Otherwise, just boil water in a pot for your French press or tea. And if you want to do a pourover, transfer it to a Pyrex measuring glass with one of those pour spouts and don't buy anything extra. But what a pain. These types of kettles are set it and forget it. Worth it for folks who use it frequently.
