I know it seems up there in price, but it is a good quality kettle and most of the name brands tend to run in the $100-250 range for gooseneck kettles (with the exception of Bodum, which is super thin metal and cheap plastic parts).
If you did you'd know there's a difference, but there's also personal preference.
A pour over on paper filters burr grinded is different then a deliciously hot percolator coffee or a strong French press. To each their own

His wife uses the electric kettle for other purposes like blanching veggies when the stovetop is occupied and she generally values her time.
IMO, the best thing this has going for it is the 1500W element. It's the only thing I don't like about my $25 bodum which is only 800W. Next time I'm in the UK I intend to pick up a 240v/3000W kettle and a type G receptacle and just rewire an outlet for it. Life's too short to wait for water to boil.

a $20-$30 french press or percolator can do a far better job of it.
I am done with fly by night Amazon Chinese brands for things like this. My next Kettle probably will be something like this or from Bonavita/Ninja. My current Bodum kettle randomly pees on my kitchen counter when not in use, but I think my wife might be ignoring the max fill line.
tldr; Buying a $100 kettle in 2016 would have saved me money and a bunch of waste/inconvenience.
