This paper is super thick and takes watercolors well. Very white color and textured. It is not flat. Sometimes Michaels has it on sale for this price and I try to stock up a little. Good value for not having to keep checking Michaels. In for a couple.

Construction paper isn't as thick or heavy and won't absorb as much water before tearing. Color mixing is going to be a lot harder on construction paper and it will warp a lot faster.

Watercolor paper is able to hold water and color better. Made to be thick to where it doesn't fall apart or tear. Construction paper is more for arts and crafts. Depending on the mediums you use there's also different kinds of paper too.

Can you recommend a good and inexpensive watercolor? I want to improve more on my color mixing techniques, but without using the fairly expensive Liquitex acrylic set that I got as a gift.

Windsor and Newton' Cotman line is a very good intermediate paint line that is very reasonable.
