I only played it years ago when it was on a big discount
There was actually a sequel in the works and a lot of development took place. The studio that made it didn't have enough runway for another game of that scope right off the back of the first one. It's why a lot of studios have multiple teams working on different projects to generate steady revenue streams.
I'm betting whatever exists is locked away in SquareEnix's vault, never to be leaked.

Shame we never got a sequel as I can only imagine what this series would be like on current hardware.
