I actually found it the opposite where the main character (and his motivations) was not very likeable in the book and the romance between him and Yvaine made more sense in the movie. The ghosts were fun in the movie, and yes Robert De Niro's character was a bit over the top but all in alll everything was much better to me.

I enjoyed the audiobook a lot more, it's read by Neil himself!

This is actually the rare movie (maybe only?) that I liked more than the book.

So much better than the movie, which turned a minor character into "Robert De Niro really wants to play a gay guy" and added a completely superfluous final battle.

I checked it out from my library and it is really good. He is actually a great reader for his genre.

In defense of the movie: my younger self was very torn between whether Claire Danes or Sienna Miller was my dream date.

Love the movie. At this price - should read the book. Granted I've also been thinking about investing in a first edition.

I actually enjoyed the movie more than the book. The book is good and very Niel Gayman (particularly in the ending), but I thought the movie was fantastic - a great mix of action, comedy, and fantastical wonder. Robert De Niro's character was delightful, as were Michelle Pfeiffer and Mark Strong, and the brothers were hilarious. The movie ending is completely different, sure, but it still worked really well as a Hollywood-style ending - exciting and touching.

Watch the movie before reading the book. The movie is great, the book is great, but they have somewhat different interpretations.

Robert de Niro as the pirate captain was fantastic - it is always good to see an actor stretch themselves in a role that is outside their 'type'.

I thought the movie was amazing, the book was good. Both worth consuming. I liked the positivity of the ending far more than the melancholy of the book.

I loved the movie and watched it multiple times over the years. Robert De Niro was amazing, I don't get the criticism. I was surprised to see Henry Cavill in it.
I think it reminds me of 80's/90's fantasy movies.

I'm sure the book is good too. So far I've enjoyed every Neil Gaiman book I've read.
I'll get the audiobook, though.

Book AND movie are two of my favorites. This is a very good deal. Bought to gift to a friend.
