My local Costco (Wheaton, MD) has its 2.5 lb House Blend whole bean coffee for $10.99. This works out to $4.40/lb.

Some Kirkland coffees sold at Costco are, in fact, roasted by Starbucks.

Why don't you add (Wheaton, MD) or YMMV in the title?

A complicating thought: Assuming you were to like the Kirkland coffee; assuming you had to clean the grinder every 4 lbs; assuming you're paying $12/lb for what you drink now.

Is it worth saving $30 every time you clean your grinder? or would you just be angry every morning at your coffee and $30 is not enough to be angry every morning?

Good luck!
Maybe I'm a barbarian, but I just use the complimentary bulk grinder in the food court on the way out of Costco.

Yes, I know it has residue from other coffee beans. Yes, I know the beans will no longer be "freshly" ground. But in the grand scheme of things, it's a huge time saver over having to grind beans every day, and the resulting coffee is still way better than any equivalently priced pre-ground alternatives from the grocery store.

The traditional Kirkland House Blend had been increasing on price over the past few years, from $9.99-$10.99-$12.99+ for the 2.5lb. bag. This new bag has a different design and no longer appears to have a "Roasted by Starbucks" on its label (maybe someone can confirm if this is still there or not).

It is still labeled as a Medium roast, but the traditional Medium Roast House Blend was actually a much darker roast than the Dark roast by Peet's or others or the other Espresso roasts they sold.

Haven't tried this new package yet, but will test it out this weekend.

I bought the K house blend medium roast about 7 months ago. I would consider it to actually be a medium roast. I use a burr grinder and find that you can vary the taste quite a bit by your grind and the amount of coffee you use in your coffee maker.

Is this the typical dark Charbucks stuff? Or is it a milder perhaps medium or light roast?
I think the burnt taste that you get in stores has to do with the way they make it, not the beans themselves. Its a good bang for buck at this price but I wouldn't pay full price for it.

This price seems about normal for in-store sales for coffee that I see all the time in Costco.

IMO, the Mayorga brand of coffee is comparable in price and tastes way better than the Kirkland brand, IMO.

If you want lighter roast, order the Kirkland Ethiopian beans online.

I was at Costco yesterday and noticed that the Starbucks labeling is gone now.

No, Starbucks coffee beans are notoriously over-roasted. Has nothing to do with the preparation method. I have read it even affects the caffeine level. That's not why I drink coffee, but some people do care.

I'll have to try this. I usually get the New Mexico Pinion Coffee.

I also find Starbucks coffees over-roasted, however roasting level does not affect caffeine level. But, if you roast more, you may end up using slightly more coffee than a lighter roast and you may get slightly more caffeine, rather than less, with a heavier roast.

Can you get NM Pinon coffee at your Costco! I haven't been able to for years. You must be in Albuquerque!
