There is a slim chance of any drastic issues, but for my peace of mind, I have been using only genuine Dyson batteries.

Earlier this month, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warned consumers to immediately stop using ZAUTNKN.INC Lithium-Ion replacement battery packs for Dyson vacuums due to fire hazard; these batteries were sold on Amazon (source [cpsc.gov]).

New York Times Wirecutter wrote an article in 2020 titled, "Knockoff Dyson Vacuum Batteries Are Cheap, but They Aren't Worth the Risk" (source [nytimes.com]).

I am not trying to stop anyone from buying third-party batteries, but am simply bringing awareness that there may be a potential problem.

Take care,

Third party V8 replacement batteries are $30-$40 on Amazon and they work great. Consider the batteries a running cost - even if you buy a new V11, with how powerful these motors are the battery is going to degrade in a couple of years again.

MASSIVE upgrade from V8 to V11. I have both and it's no comparison. Better suction, better battery (doesn't need to be replaced every couple years), twice the runtime, three levels of suction instead of two, easier to dock & undock if you use the dock, etc.. Only downside is V11 being a bit heavier but easily worth the trade off.

We love our Dyson v8 but batteries last a year or so before they won't run more than a minute in high mode. And 120$ to replace from Dyson sucks.

And I know there are cheaper batteries but safety and they generally don't last as long. I'm thinking of stopping the battery buy cycle and going back to corded. 120$ a year is crazy for a vacuum

Man lots of complaints on here from Dyson fans. I've used a corded animal ball Dyson 15 yrs ago and was great.

But 5 years ago went to Shark cordless stick, had Rocket Pet Pro and battery still holds up well and I get about 30-45 min runtime now which is great for me. In fact I was so lazy I never changed the filters with soap and water and it's still humming along.

Just one user's datapoint but I'd buy Shark again for sure.

Good luck with their customer service department if you have any sort of issues. I bought an air purifier that came up on SD in July that has been having issues. I have been back and forth via email with Dyson since 12/8/23. They send the same generic email once a week. I have now gone past the 6 month warranty that was offered, but I wanted everything in writing. I will be calling this week to try and remedy the issue but I do not have a lot of faith. Unacceptable level of service for what they charge for their product.

As someone who professionally homes for a living, I would suggest a Miele canister. Shark will do as well-but harder to get underneath furniture with most of the vacuums they sell.

Anyone have that V11 Extra? We're currently using a V8 with a somewhat wonky battery (works for a minute, then stops, works fine until empty after hanging it on charger briefly and starting again), but I do like the idea of a readout on the battery life. And, since ours was a refurb, a new battery on this one would be another upgrade.

Just curious how much of an upgrade from the V8, and whether or not it's truly worth nearly $300. I love Dysons, but the prices can be hard to swallow.
Had the same issue last year with my V8 and ended buying an aftermarket battery on Amazon for 25 bucks. Super easy to install and my vacuum runs for 30 minutes without charging it. Highly recommend doing this

Which one of the cordless options would be best for the basement/workshop area? I heard some people say it might be too much for the V8 and could damage it. Just want some convenience because using a shop vac for a large area gets annoying.

My after market larger battery for the v8 has let much longer than the Dyson battery. Although I've had to replace the head and the "tube". Basically the cost of owning went way up.

My v7 definitely needs a new battery do you have a favorite brand? I know all these random companies lie about capacity

Is it trigger hold or toggle? It's a bit annoying sometimes to keep holding it down in tight spaces.
