There is a slim chance of any drastic issues, but for my peace of mind, I have been using only genuine Dyson batteries.

Earlier this month, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warned consumers to immediately stop using ZAUTNKN.INC Lithium-Ion replacement battery packs for Dyson vacuums due to fire hazard; these batteries were sold on Amazon (source [cpsc.gov]).

New York Times Wirecutter wrote an article in 2020 titled, "Knockoff Dyson Vacuum Batteries Are Cheap, but They Aren't Worth the Risk" (source [nytimes.com]).

I am not trying to stop anyone from buying third-party batteries, but am simply bringing awareness that there may be a potential problem.

Take care,

Third party V8 replacement batteries are $30-$40 on Amazon and they work great. Consider the batteries a running cost - even if you buy a new V11, with how powerful these motors are the battery is going to degrade in a couple of years again.

MASSIVE upgrade from V8 to V11. I have both and it's no comparison. Better suction, better battery (doesn't need to be replaced every couple years), twice the runtime, three levels of suction instead of two, easier to dock & undock if you use the dock, etc.. Only downside is V11 being a bit heavier but easily worth the trade off.

Btw, the V11 Torque Drive is $10 cheaper on Dyson Direct at $280:

From what I can tell, no real differences betwen the V11 Extra and Torque Drive

I was debating the same thing. The Vacuum Wars Dyson video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94xundRBBE4) indicated the Outsize was in the top 3 for max power of all vacuums tested...just below the V15 models. I figured Id spend the extra money and give it a whirl.

Does anyone have experience with the omniglide? I just bought a knock-off version on Amazon. I like it, but it seems to lack in power, especially for small particulates, I'm curious if the Dyson would be worth it to upgrade. It's possible I'm just not used to cordless vacuums, I'm used to my bagged prolux backpack which picks up everything with ease.

I got the v11 Outsize though from this. We love our V10, but the battery is dying and the "fluffy head" died too and that's about $250 to replace both from Dyson. Might as well get a new one.
Curious. How does a fluffy head die?

I have a V11. They all suck ass. Horrible battery. A $75 corded vac has significantly more power and run until you're done.

Never buying another one of these things again.

Of course corded vacuums are better...

You only buy a cordless vacuum if you need/prefer your vacuum to be portable.

I have one and got one for my mom. It's very limited, but great at what it does. the wheels rotate 360 degrees, allowing it to traverse smoothly. I also have a V12, and prefer to use this if just cleaning some hardwood

Thanks! everyone buy a corded vac. No one needs a portable vac. No one. You can spend the extra 10 seconds to plug the corded vac into wherever you need to move it. Dyson is straight ASS

I have both (corded and cordless). each have their purpose. For a quick cleaning, can't beat cordless and I don't have to keep unplugging it and plugging it back in to reach around the hwole house.

I do a quick vacuum around the house every morning before work. it's a lot easier and faster to just pull a cordless off the wall to do that and the unwind the cord, vacuum....move plug...vaccuuum...move plug....vacuuum....wind up coard and put it away.

you might want to try the V8 without any attachments to see if it still does that. Mine was shutting off in a minute after a full charge but then realized there was some debris stuck in the vacuum head joint. Once that was cleaned out it worked fine.
I had the same problem, mine was completely clogged and never cleaned that area in years.
