40 Years in the Army and the coldest place I've ever been was to Hokkaido. Colder than Korea, Alaska and a witch's brass bra combined. The Japanese are wonderful people and I hope to return...but not to Hokkaido. Too Cold for this California boy.

A friend went on the hellokitty plane last year 2023, and it seems like they cut a lot of the costs. Its now just paint on the outside and some cute tv animation themes. When I went on it when it first came out a while back, there was a hellokitty utinsel set, blankets, etc. YMMV but just a heads up that it may not be as "themed" as before post covid

yes! but only on the first leg of the trip. you will make one stop in taipei and your flight number have to be BR 55 or 56. from taipei to narita, it will not be the hello kitty jet. current round trip price for the same time period is around $1150

Weather looks pretty mild at the moment at least. Especially compared to a lot of the northern regions of this country. Am I missing something? Does it get a lot colder? Reading in November it should be between 47 and 34 which seems pretty decent.

October is one of the best months of the year to visit Hokkaido: days are typically sunny, crisp and dry, with comfortable temperatures (avg temp: 16°C) making this an ideal month for hiking, especially around Sapporo and Niseko.

Some people go there for the powder and even buy condos for winter fun. Nothing beats a day out skiing like an onsen hotspring soak and some hotpot nabe soups.

I'm from Minnesota and do know, by having been there multiple times, that some parts of Hokkaido do get as cold as Minnesota. But that's only in the middle of winter like right now. Sapporo isn't that cold and is a clean and pleasant city. The birthplace of miso ramen too.
