Not only is this the lowest airfare travelling round trip from Chicago (ORD) to Sapporo Japan (CTS) but this is on EVA Air's special livery jet, Hello Kitty! Whee Your entire flight will be on the themed Hello Kitty airplane (always subject to change by the airline). Your economy airfare will include a personal item, a carry-on bag up to 15 lbs and 2 free checked bags up to 50 lbs. You will also received 30-mins of inflight wi-fi for free.

So I cannot help it if something changes with the airline due to whatever and it won't be on a Hello Kitty jet come October or November....however, when booking, just make sure your flight numbers are BR 55 and 56 (ORD TPE segment) and BR 116 and 115 (TPE CTS segment) for both outbound and return.

EVA Air is Skytrax certified 5-star rated Star Alliance member. Overall, it was ranked the 8th best airlines in the world.

Travel Availability:
Departs ORD: Oct 22-24, 28-31; Nov 4-7, 11-14, 18-21, 25-28
Returns: Oct 29-31; Nov 4-7, 11-14, 18-21, 25-28; Dec 2-5, 9-12, 16-18

40 Years in the Army and the coldest place I've ever been was to Hokkaido. Colder than Korea, Alaska and a witch's brass bra combined. The Japanese are wonderful people and I hope to return...but not to Hokkaido. Too Cold for this California boy.
Chicagoans will definitely find that's it's super warm in Hokkaido Smilie
A friend went on the hellokitty plane last year 2023, and it seems like they cut a lot of the costs. Its now just paint on the outside and some cute tv animation themes. When I went on it when it first came out a while back, there was a hellokitty utinsel set, blankets, etc. YMMV but just a heads up that it may not be as "themed" as before post covid

In for a trip to the Mr. Sparkle factory!

Just reading the words Mr. Sparkle cracks me up. Right up there with Spider Pig, there's no air in space, and what the hell is that.

Compared to Chicago, Sapporo isn't cold. I lived in Sapporo—which calls itself "the snowiest city in the world (with over 1 million people)"—and dealt with snows you just don't see in the Midwest. My main gripe was the snow and ice, not the temperatures. Even Indianapolis in winter is often colder than Sapporo.
Also, this isn't what I would call a great deal unless you're a die-hard Hello Kitty fan and require a direct flight to Hokkaido. If you watch for them, you can snag RT to Tokyo from Chicago sub-$700, and then take a cheap domestic flight up to New Chitose (Sapporo's airport) for around $100 if you play your cards right. It's fun to take the shinkansen up that way but that's much more expensive than a flight (yes, even with the JR Pass) and takes much longer.

EVA says that they are not running the regular Hello Kitty schedule until further notice. Historically ORD-TPE was definitely one of the routes and sounds like TPE-CTS was as well, but right now there's zero guarantee any of your flights will be on a Sanrio jet. This page used to tell you which routes each plane was used for, and as long as you got those specific flights you were guaranteed to be on a Sanrio jet unless they had to do an equipment swap, in which case you'd be in a normal plane but the interior and all the special stuff would still be the Sanrio experience: https://www.evaair.com/en-global/...very-jets/

Even if you don't get the Sanrio jets, EVA is still a great airline.

If you grew up in California you are desensitized to that weather as normal.

What is your method for finding the sub $700 flights? Are you just looking on Skyscanner every day or something?

Weather looks pretty mild at the moment at least. Especially compared to a lot of the northern regions of this country. Am I missing something? Does it get a lot colder? Reading in November it should be between 47 and 34 which seems pretty decent.

I lived in Northern Japan and Hokkaido is great in October. Sapporo's fall colors are excellent the last two weeks of October. Even in the winter it doesn't really get that cold, the mid-west is way colder. They do get a ton of snow though.

It's definitely the same as most of the Midwest in the USA during the winter. These days are for autumn though, so it won't be that bad at all. I was just in Hakodate for 5 days in southern Hokkaido.. It didn't get too much below freezing, but it does get very windy right off the ocean of course. We are going back up to Sapporo from Feb 4th to the 9th for the snow festival. It snows a lot up there though. Sapporo is a really cool place to visit, excellent variety of food. If you like sea urchin roe (uni), or crab/squid - it's the best place in Nihon in our opinion, so fresh.

I've been here in Nihon since Dec 5th with my nihonjin wife, we are heading back to the USA Feb 28th. It's a cool place to visit. The winters are nothing like the Northern states in the USA in winter though. The hello kitty jet looks pretty cool. Applause
We are here now for the snow festival. It's cold, snowy as usual, but it's been pretty sweet. We did some skiing today. I'm bad, but I didn't get hurt so that's good. The carvings are excellent this year. ✌️ I had a lot of videos of the giant 3 story carvings so I couldn't post, but it was good. If you come here though, be sure to try the seafood, raw or cooked.. Hokkaido has some of the best.

One funny thing is, we booked here in Nihon using JTB from Tokyo to Sapporo and you get such awesome prices and packages, we got on the star wars ana plane.. we had no clue until we boarded. You get c3po and r2d2 doing their thing over the intercom and the head rests and flight crew wear star wars outfits.
