Cheapest is to get one of their $15 a month plans. There are two $15 a month plans, one has unlimited talk and text, the other one has 500 min, 500 texts, and 500mb of data.

Also note that 99% of all "reconditioned" phones (whether iPhone or Android) sold by Tracfone are already unlocked or qualify for unlocking without any need to activate with a plan or wait 60 days. So the first thing to do when you get a "reconditioned" phone from them is to dial #83865625# that will tell you the unlock status. If it offers for you to enter a code, enter the phone's IMEI on Tfunlockingpolicy website, chances are very high it already qualifies for unlocking without the need to buy any plans. If on the second page you get an "error" from the website, just call Tracfone's unlocking department at 1-888-442-5102. If they don't cooperate, just file an FCC complaint and they will do you right in no time as they fear the regulator.
199 + sales tax + 35
It's an OK deal, but not a great one. With battery capacity at 90%, the phone must have been used for at least a year and it wasn't reconditioned by Apple. I've purchased a couple of reconditioned iPhone's (11 and Xr) from Tracfone before (mostly with reward points). All appeared to be customer returns with little usage. I was hoping these 12's were also customer returns, but it doesn't seem to be the case.

Yesterday ST lowered brand new 12 and 12 mini by $100 but the price went back today. I think that was a better deal since it would come with Apple Care and you didn't have to buy a plan. You could activate it on Tracfone with $0~$10 and have it unlocked after 60 days.

This is a good phone for someone who's not too keen about having the latest updates after a year or two. I just wish it was 128gb instead, even for $50 extra.

64GB. In 2024. This is planned obsolescence. E-junk from a self-proclaimed "green" company.

It's ok, the Apple herd will still buy it for the logo.

$200 for a three year old used phone is a deal? You can get a brand new Pixel 7, S23, or 10T Plus for a little more (on sale). Why pay $200 for used...

Of course it's planned obsolescence. Why do you think Apple covertly lowered performance with aging batteries in older phones? The kicker was, they didn't tell anyone about it. Steve Jobs at his finest.

Reconditioned Iphone 12 for $199.

I got the phone with 90% battery health. Original screen. No issues.

Activated with $35 plan and will unlock after 60 days.

Good backup phone or can be use a primary after unlock.

No need to recharge for 2nd month. You can leave the phone as is for 60 days and on 61st day it will be automatically unlocked.

I've been looking into upgrading from my iPhone SE (3rd gen) - this is a tempting offer to not have the old screen layout/home button....

Basically tracfone launched a BF promotion through their website without having the common sense to ensure any orders would comply with the promotion terms (limit 2, must be ordered with the $45 plan). Of course, slickdealers immediately ordered 5+ phones, sans plan, at the discounted price. StraightTalk caught on and started cancelling orders that didn't comply, which is fair enough, except they also went ahead and charged the full price of those orders. I had ordered 2 planless phones hoping to slip by. When I was unable to check my order status on the website, I called support. They assured me that they could see the order in the system and to wait the full 3-5 days before assuming anything was wrong. After those 5 days passed, I called back to initiate a cancellation and refund. Twice I called, twice I spent 20 minutes on the line with the frontline rep before being placed on hold for another 15+, twice the person in the "refund department" abruptly ended the call after saying they were pulling up my order. The first I was willing to chalk up to an accident. After the second, I initiated my charge back.

In fairness, this phone released in 2020. 128GB is the baseline now. But nevertheless, the ridiculous upcharge Apple (and many others) place on storage should be criminal. Going from 128GB to 256GB probably costs apple less than $10, yet they charge $100. And for $256-512, they charge $200.

I managed to sweeten the deal a bit by looking around for a refer-a-friend code that gives you 5000 points for an extra free month so in that sense for around $250 after Tax with 2 months of service (until it unlocks) isn't that bad

I think this is a reasonable question given the comments earlier in the chain about some being unlocked from previous activation. Would save 2 months of having it sitting in a drawer.
