Still rockin the ole 2600x myself. Got it for $79 new from Micro Center like 4 years ago. As much as I want to upgrade, hard for me to justify bc the 2600x still does everything I need it to do at a relatively high level. (Gaming paired w rx 6600 at 1080p)

Great deal on a great cpu, but word on the street is that if you're not doing things which really utilize the extra cores/threads (if you were, you'd probably know) then this is still a waste of money over a 5800X and below.

For Photoshop tests, Puget Systems showed the 5950X is really no better than a 5800X. [pugetsystems.com]

Don't get me wrong, I still want one, but unless someone can explain otherwise, (all I really need is to do Photoshop and Illustrator) my research has indicated that only users such as CG artists or heavy video editors and the like will benefit from the extra cores. Gamers may be better off applying the extra cash toward their GPU.

Really want this but the heat production scares me... I'm gonna wait for the next line up of AM4 CPUs that AMD is currently working on!

I've been looking at the 5900X/5800X3D over my current 5700G. Reason being is that the 5700G doesn't support PCIe Gen4. This proc supports it. I'm currently leaving performance on the table just in that regard with my NVMe. This will future proof my current rig for years to come and actually allow me to utilize my system as a whole. Yes, I initially made the mistake on getting the 5700G, I just didn't realize it at the time when I got it (I didn't have a video card at the time.).

I am sure one of my sons would love the 5700G on a future build (have to give them upgrade potential to work towards).

I don't know what you do with your pc but, an upgrade to AM5 would be a better futureproof.
I have a system with a 5900x and a 5700g and honestly they both do all I need and the milliseconds are not noticeable

I don't have the funds to buy new DDR5 memory, a new AM5 mobo, and an AM5 proc (I am not near a MicroCenter.)

I've got $330 in Amazon credit that I can use at this moment. I can spend $35 to upgrade.

Now, unless you see a deal I am missing for an AM5 bundle for a good proc... Then maybe.

5950X is one of the most power-efficient processors AMD makes, better than the Ryzen 7000 series and matching some of the new Threadripper CPUs. Although the Ryzen 7000 series has better performance, AMD had to jack up the wattage/power-limits to get there.

This is really tempting. I currently have a 3700X so an upgrade to the 5950X would be great for my video editing. Unfortunately, I'd have to upgrade from my wraith cooler as well to be able to handle the high TDP... tough call.

Wow we are like twins. I was on the 3700x for two years doing video rendering and just last week finally upgraded to the 5950x

I'm very happy I did. It's pretty wild seeing 16 cores at your disposal :-)

Not sure what motherboard you have, but you should also make sure that your motherboard can support the 5950X TDP. This is what stopped me from upgrading and holding out for a deal from Microcenter on the Ryzen 7000s on the AM5 platform.

Assuming this is within your budget, waiting for this bundle to come back to down to $550 or potentially lower once the 8000s are released. You will get a new motherboard supporting the AM5 platform and 32GB of DDR5 memory.

I got a 4090 and a 5600x. For DA Vinci Resolve that utilizes mostly GPU, what benefit would I get form a 5950x? Probably none right? I mean games the 5600x is fine at 1440p.
