The opening scene of this book reminds me of the opening scene of Skyrim. Just a slave in the back of a cart, waiting for his secret powers to be revealed.

I highly recommend this book. And can say that not a single person who I passed the recommendation on to has not had great things to say about it.

I had this problem too. I only made it half way through book 3 and just quit at that point.

Up to this, I read everything Sanderson put out but maybe it's not for me anymore.
I thought it was just me. I couldn't figure out why reading though Oathbringer felt like I was trudging through it. I'd rather reread way of kings or the second book than push through Oathbringer.

Ereader IQ says the all time low was $3. $4 is worth it still
This is the e-version I see, which has either been free or $1 on SD before, which is how I got hooked, because the were so many rave reviews in the comments. I remember reading the entire book in a year solely from trips to the toilet at work.

Unfortunately, I don't know the best way to go about reading these. I powered through the 2nd book which was also awesome, but the 3rd one I had to wait 2 or 3 years before it released. I remembered the major plot points, but there are so many details and minor characters and events I forgot, I wasn't able to engross myself the way as before.

I've been reading 40-50 books every year since I was a kid, and Sanderson is just amazing author! This was my first series from him and I pretty much stopped reading anything else until I was done with all his work. If you haven't read it and you like fantasy, do yourself a favor and get this immediately.

I really enjoyed this series. It's incomplete, but Sanderson is like Steven King, he treats writing like a full time 9-5 job. Each year he puts out like 5 new books. I know people are afraid to start longer series when they're incomplete (thanks to George RR Martin and Patrick Rothfuss for poisoning a generation of readers) but I fully expect this series will be completed. The next book that's supposed to be released this year actually wraps up the current storyline, so there's closure to be expected if you start this now.

Way of Kings started off a bit slow for me, like pretty much any fantasy series where you need to do a lot of world building - but once it gets going, it's a very fun ride.

This is one of my favorite series of all time. I hated wheel of time, I couldn't get past the 3rd or 4th book (I only say that to give a sense of my interests). Mistborn first 3 were great, second 3 I couldn't finish.

I especially liked stormlight archives graphic audio. It takes a little getting used to the sound effects overlapping with dialog, but I enjoyed the series so much this way. I frequently had my heart pumping during suspenseful scenes.

Technically, Book 1 was free from the Tor.com book club back in May of 2017. It has been $3 at least a couple of times (I got it in May 2014) and the other three books have also been $3 at least once each.

If you aren't a fast reader, you might get this now to be ready for book 5 in December. If you are, there may be better sales later one like they did before the release of book 4.

Just finished Mistborn series. Wow. Great series in same universe. (Supposedly being brought to the big screen, at some point.) Can't wait to dive into this.

An absolutely amazing, ground shattering book. Maybe my favorite piece of entertainment of all time (includes music, TV, movies, etc.)
