To head off some of the usual replies from people unfamiliar with buying gold that often come along with these threads, the spot price of gold is based on the price per oz of a 100 oz bar, not buying individual 1 oz bars like this. It's basically the wholesale price, like buying bushels of corn from a farmer versus a single ear. The couple of percent premium over spot at Costco is lower than buying from most other reputable retailers and after the Executive bonus and CC cashback rewards, it comes out to less than spot for a 1 oz bar, which is pretty much unheard of anywhere else.

You usually sell to local coin shops or bullion dealers. The list below will show local places and is a good place to start. Make a few calls for quotes to sell first to get an idea of local premiums, as they can vary by location. You can just ask how much they pay for a 1 oz Pamp Bar as if you already have it.

1 mo movement is also clearly downward trend. So by time people have this delivered it will be worth even less than 2-3% under $2015 spot.

With the ETF, you have much less concerns like security and storage. They have an annual maintenance fee associated with them, but it's only a fraction of a percent, so not really a big deal. Also, the maintenance fee on BAR is about half of that on GLD if I recall correctly (although the buy / sell spread can be a tiny bit higher … usually a worthwhile tradeoff unless you're trading in and out frequently). But with physical bars, you have them in your possession and have complete control of them at all times, so very different options, although both have their place depending on what you're looking for.

Thanks, I guess I would buy ETF if I want to invest in gold or gold jewelry if I really need the physical presence.

Simply put, one is physically holding gold, the other is owning gold on a "ledger" ie on paper only. I don't understand wanting to own paper gold, but to each their own.

Jewelry isn't at all a good way to buy physical gold unless you like it for the aesthetic value … it's not bought and sold as an easily resellable item like these bars and you'll often take a huge loss when selling, as it'll go to a pawn-broker type of buyer for well below spot. The spread on these bars is usually only a few percent.
