I am very very wary of Acer quality now. I have 2 laptops with severe problems in the last year itself. Acer driver support is terrible. One laptop had no drivers to download and one laptop is inexplicably becoming slow for a few days and there is no diagnosis. No it is not windows update, ssd or any other issue that can be pointed at.
What drivers do you think you need to get directly from Acer? It's pretty rare, especially for a budget laptop, to have OEM-specific hardware these days. Laptops are just a collection of COTS parts. You can probably get all of the drivers from Intel/AMD/nVidia/RealTek etc. directly. Modern CPUs have all of the bridges built right-in, there's little else on there.

That really just leaves BIOS and any device-specific firmware (e.g. Thunderbolt controller) to the OEM.

I have an Acer Aspire vero, build quality is better than the regular aspire. I've noticed with the Acer software that it will want to revert to old drivers from 2 years ago if you find more recent ones outside their website. It was also happening on my Lenovo Legion.

Posting this comment from same laptop.

The most annoying thing on any cheap laptop has always been the trackpad/touchpad, and this one's doesn't suck too bad, compared to a Dell Precision Workstation with Intel 7th gen proc I have, Acer's trackpad is relatively WAY better

This is mostly a great laptop
good build
touchscreen works great
usb c supports BOTH display alt and PD charging, i was able to connect to a hub with 2 extra monitors, running 3 screens at the same time
screen is actually pretty bright 350nits ish
touchpad is good, key has good reach

the only issue is the cpu... definately felt like 10th gen / ryzen 4k series which is a good 30% slower than current gen and is slower than my yoga ryzen 5700u

return process is fast and easy though. for everyday tasks its fine.
condition looks like new

Purchased one of these in Nov. Had a couple of small issues, the touchpad stopped working and had to figure out there's a function key to turn it on/off. Then the touchscreen stopped working twice, but a shutdown/restart fixed this as the Human Interface Device disappeared both times.

Purchased a second laptop on Jan 19, started to setup for use (about 1 hour total use), got some system updates and after doing this the system turned off. It would never power back up. Tried multiple times holding down the power button for a hard reset, but no response. Sent this back for RMA (free return shipping label) on Jan 22, they received it Jan 25, have to wait until Jan 29 for a refund. They don't do any exchanges. I'm not sure if I want to buy another one or not.

Like I said to laptop makers you are not apple stop copying them for ram hdd and battery you will lose. This isn't a bad deal though for what it is.

Install Linux when windows gets bogged down

If they kept those things away from bring like apple they would at least differentiate but they copy so people may as well get apple.

Reason to get pc or laptop vs macbook is upgradablility dumbasses thinking copying apple will help them sell more at higher prices. Nope you made your product instantly worth 50% less doing that.

Like Removable batteries. On phones. 3.5 headphone jack, SD slot.

Android locking out SD cards from main system doesn't help.

Etc.

What would have increased the desirability made it undesirable.

Seems like a great deal. The processor is kind of weak and may limit this laptop's longevity. But for this price, you can't expect much.
Weak as in compared to what?

My wife is still using her ryzen 5 3500u laptop (with 16gb ram) which is maybe 20% slower. It performs fine in everyday tasks.
The ryzen 5 3500u Passmark score is 6970 and the 7520u is 9456, more like 35% lol

In the last 2-3 years I've had friends buy Various Acer laptops. And I gotta say it's one of the worst quality laptops I've seen. Hinges flexing like crazy, body flex, keyboard flex, lowest quality webcam. But generally having good cpu ram and cooler and good speakers as the trade off. One friend his hinge broke off, and apparently on that particular model it's common to see the hinges break because they used welded fused plastic to hold the hinges to the body. 🤦
