I hope these are improved from the 12's. Those were straight up horrible. The heel was so firm and unpadded, the ankle slide no matter how laced was bad. I did a few 4000' ascents in them and that was it. They are now in my pile of walk around the block shoes.
Can someone who has these or tried them on comment on the size of the toebox? Saucony used to have wide toeboxes but over the years it's gotten more in line with industry standards. I used to run in Peregrines, but switched to Hoka.
How are the Shifts in terms of toebox size? From the images it looks like a standard toebox, not particularly large.
I was going to ask exactly this. The ones I have from 2016 were awesome with a roomy toe box, my newer ones several years later are way more uncomfortable.
thanks for the heads-up. Saucony deals are not what they used to be ... waiting for lower pries.
I wouldn't hold my breath. Saucony's new CEO is pivoting the brand away from overproduction which traditionally has led to aggressive discounting. This past holiday season was notable for the absence of juicy deals on Saucony product.
Right now, we're in the weak part of the year after consumers have spent down their holiday cushion that typically coincides with retailers being flush with excess Saucony inventory. But this winter that hasn't turned out to be the case. Inventory seems quasi-dry for most 2022 and 2023 models. New models of the Ride, Guide, and Endorphins are just hitting the market but retailers are not slashing prices on the previous models like they've done in previous years. The new trail models from Saucony are not expected until this spring and summer. The inventory for Saucony's premium trail shoes, the Edge and Rift, is very thin. Even at Saucony.com inventory is very spotty for these models.
One thing I noticed the other day, and it's quite odd, is that Saucony is discounting clearance models such as the Endorphin Speed 3 by 30% on their EU zone websites. But in the USA Saucony only discounts such clearance models by a less generous 20%. I also noticed that some independent online retailers in EU countries are discounting Saucony"s best trail shoe models, the Edge and Rift, by 40-50%. So demand must be weaker in Europe than in the USA.
A little off topic but I wanted to mention that Saucony has an excellent trail shoe that most people no nothing of. It's the Endorphin Rift. It was released last year without much fanfare. The midsole on the Rift is impressively comfortable, protective and bouncy. Saucony used their best PEBA foam for the Rift and paired it with a super durable outsole. It's more than just a trail version of an Endorphin Speed. It's been designed from the ground up. The foot feels planted on landings. The heel is well locked down. The upper is very breathable (for a trail shoe) but still keeps out sand. If I had to choose among the shoes in my rotation the Rift would probably be my favorite shoe. So Saucony is improving and innovating on the trail side. This is nice to see. Compared to something like the Peregrine, which has an EVA midsole and less durable outsole, the Rift will provide a better experience and probably more miles of usage. It might be worth the premium price tag.

Thanks for the recommendation! I have the Xodus Ultra for trail, which also uses Pwrrun PB. I've been happy with it for the most part, other than one of the lugs coming off after my first hike lol.
