Because Delta already "has" you for a customer most likely. They are using these deals to try to attract new customers.

Call their retention department first and see what they will offer you. Sometimes they waive the annual fee (only $99 but still..), offer bonus miles for spend, etc.

I downgraded my Delta card for this reason. Despite living near a Delta hub, I only took Delta once in the past 3 years -- for my destinations, there are many flights to choose from, and Delta is often the more expensive option. Decided it was not necessary to keep the card for those perks in the off chance I would fly Delta.
