Even though 21 is more common in my area, I prefer the 30. Nails, though not as widely available, can be ordered online, which is usually cheaper than local anyways.

I prefer paper collated (30) over plastic (21) collated. The plastic collated nails leave bits of plastic all over the site and embedded with the nail heads.

The 30 is also a bit more compact to hold.

Can't go wrong with either. Unless your project specifically calls out 2-1/2" x 0.131 HDG smooth nails, as it might for attaching sheathing in CA. Can't get that specific nail in 30 deg for some reason.

Find out what is more commonly used in your area. It's a regional thing. Where I am, 21 is the most commonly used and therefore what you can find nails for most in the store. The strips are collated with plastic vs paper and the heads can be different. If you're just getting it for a project here or there, you should be good with either.
