I would think anyone looking at this would be much better served by something like this Firman dual fuel for $450

Has anyone ever used these? How reliable are these if you only use for emergency backup?

I've had this generator a couple years. It's been reliable. I use for my camping trailer.

One tip, you have to keep the spark arrestor clean. It's easy, one bolt and some carb cleaner.

I want a bigger tri fuel or bi-fuel that I can hook up to natural gas for my home. I'll be setting up a transfer switch soon in order to run the furnace, keep the fridge/feezer going, and some outlets if power goes out .

Perfect as an emergency backup. I have used one and it is well worth the money.

In the market for a backup generator but similar off brand ones seem to be going for a few hundred $ less.

There's a 3700w Westinghouse for only $500 on Amazon for example. Not sure if Harbor Freight's Predator line is rated any better.

People commenting here have no clue about generators or what this even is. This Predator 3500 is the closest thing to the Honda EU3000is which is a higher end inverter generator that is known to be very reliable. This Predator has been tested on many review sites as to be just as good if not better for 1/3 of the price of the Honda. These Predators are known to be very reliable, quiet and run at the advertised wattage unlike many other inverter generators on the market. This generator is worth it even at full MSRP. This deal is slick for 2024 but you used to be able to get these for $100 less a few years back before inflation.

It's only 3000 watts running, and only 120V output on the 30A plug.

They're nice units for camping and the RV but likely too small to run much besides lighting or TV's in your house. Get something with 240V output and at least 10k watts. I have a 13k duo fuel and it'll run my oil furnance & fan, plus most of the house. Gotta know the load you want to power to properly size it. If you don't know what you're doing, you'll want a load transfer switch as well plus the backfeed prevention installed on the breaker.
10K is overkill for most people for temporary backup power. I run my entire house on a 6K diesel. This includes all the lights, TV, electric hot water, frig, deep freeze, and blower on gas furnace. Basically everything but the dryer and microwave. If I wanted to run the microwave and dryer I could as long as I shut off some other things. If its temporary backup, you can live without a few things for a couple of days. Bigger the generator the more expensive fuel bill. My diesel generator runs about 1/2 gallon per hour. I also have a 11K welder/generator that I can also use but it runs about 1 gal/hr. The diesel cost about $35/day to run and the larger gas one cost about $75/day. If power is out for a week, that is an expensive fuel bill.

Have a neighbor who swears by his Honda Generators. Meanwhile, he's been through three over the last ten years and I'm still chugging along fine with my first and only Predator Generator all these years later. lol

I have this generator and it's great. I just run it for like 15-20 mins every 3 months. Had it for 4 years, used it a few times during power outages.
