They sell a rechargeable one (not that that meets your desires to be used with a smart plug) but they use a different refill and when I did the math, it was more expensive than buying mats and refilling the butane. https://www.amazon.com/Thermacell...B08PDH936V

It employs Allethrin, effective against insects, but potentially toxic to cats and possibly dogs. I would avoid if I have house animals.

"Possibly dogs" - please don't make statements like this without linking to some proof, because googling does not show any meaningful results that matches what you are saying. "Possibly" is such a vague, annoying fear mongering line.

Not sure why you are jumping up and down. Dogs appear to have a higher tolerance to Allethrin, and there are fewer reported cases of poisoning. So, while it is still toxic to dogs, the risk of poisonings is lower. Many reports of poisonings, possibly from Allethrin, exist, so the term is used. Fear? Yes. You should, and I will, definitely be alert when handling chemicals that can poison your household animals.

Thanks for responding with some references. In general what I was able to find myself seems to indicate that **standard** usage of thermacell products is completely safe for dogs (i.e., used to create a mosquito safe zone by lighting whatever butane thermacell product you are using).

Now, if your point was if they ingest the cartridge, I think that is obviously scary/worth knowing, but also not the scenario most people are picturing when reading your original post. Your message basically reads using this product is risky for dogs, when in reality just ingestion of an ingredient is risky - which is obviously a completely nonstandard scenario. Tons of stuff around the house is dangerous if ingested by pets. I appreciate the call out and will be extra mindful myself, but that specificity is pretty important.

No mosquitos here til the warmer months, curious if these will last or any datapoints on these nearing expiration. Thanks!

They come in a foil wrapper. So they should be fine; I have some from a few years ago and still are not dry.
