It has held up extraordinary well to multiple kids growing up, mischievous dogs, cats, etc. The sliding lock at the top helps. It takes your "typical" draw string kitchen trash bags just fine. (I can't speak for the smaller one).
As someone else wrote, their dog would occasionally knock it over but with the lock, contents stay secure. I just dropped 2x brick-sized patio pavers in the bottom to give it a little more base weight and that fixed that problem for me over the years.
