I bought the Dewalt Black and Golds about a month back and I think I will just keep those. $10 for that 14 pc set. Not "Titanium" like these but also not hex shank grafted like these. I've also read that these grafted ones can have more drill runout if they aren't mounted in the hex shank 100% straight.....

I believe the titanium coating is designed to prevent oxidation and reduce friction to keep temps lower and structural integrity of the cutting edge intact. The black oxide coating does the same I believe. A bit of cutting oil and a lower RPM is MUCH more important than coating TBH. Most people just go full tilt on hard materials and ruin their bits. Cobalt has higher heat tolerance, but still dramatically underperforms at higher RPMs and without oil. It's night and day. Technique is as important as the tool itself.
Ok rant complete

So... It's not the tool, but how you use it? 😉
Cobalt is harder, but is also more brittle.

Cobalt steel is generally more brittle. However, the project farm testing showed the Bosch 8% cobalt M42 bits took essentially the same torque before cracking as the DeWalt HSS bits did, which was very impressive.
The review also showed the DeWalt HSS couldn't successfully drill harder metal whereas several cobalt easily could. At the same or similar toughness, I think the cobalt, at least the Bosch cobalt bits, are a very attractive value.

Good to know the bits I already have performed well in PF's tests!👍 That guy is big asset to us all!
11 dollars regular price at my local Home Depot too. Amazon reviews, sorted by recent, show the same poor ratings caused by instant breaking and releasing from shank.
