Personal finance software like Quicken Classic at it's most basic is like an electronic check register. You can keep track of your income and spending locally on your computer, separate from your bank's records, and you can then do a download from your bank to make sure your records are correct.

It's particularly useful if you have multiple accounts at multiple different banks. With software like Quicken, it lets you see all your accounts in one place, instead of having to log into every bank's website constantly.

You can also use it to create and maintain a budget, but that's not a feature I personally use.

(Not sure what you're getting at with the lobbying comment, though.)

Thanks for the post - this is the standard deal for a year of quicken and I'm just about up on my current subscription. I've used Quicken for years, but have switched to other services (both free and paid) and I have always returned to Quicken. It is the best software out there for comprehensive personal finance tracking, even with it's perceived flaws and subscription based cost. The syncing with the desktop app and mobile app has improved over the years and makes for straight forward software to use.

My Citi card has an additional 2% offer for NewEgg. Not exactly a huge additional savings, but every little bit helps.

$32 seems to be the best deal since the last year. My expiry date is 4/2025. Hoping that there is a FP deal for BF day.

Ah man...I thought for sure it said Chicken Classic Deluxe. A subscription for chicken sandwiches would be great.

What can this do that my bank online page doesn't do? I just am having a hard time funding a company with their lobbying activity. I mean it's nottheir fault, I suppose the government allows lobbying (bribing) so, you can't blame them.

I switched to GnuCash and aint looking back. It's not perfect, but I found it's better than Quicken in a number of ways.

Other versions like Quicken Classic Business & Personal are available too with similar discounts.
Click on the option tabs.

I am also experimenting with gnucash and waveapps as free alternatives to paid subscription service.

Yes, you can use this at any time up to 6 months before the end of your subscription to extend by 1 year.

(There are versions out there marked "new subscribers only" that will not work, but this one is fine to extend an existing subscription.)

Quicken used to be owned by Intuit, but was sold off to some other company about 6-8 years ago. TurboTax is what you're thinking of with the lobbying, still owned by Intuit.

As software goes, Quicken is buggy, slow and old code, and the subscription model is not very attractive to me. But it's the best in the business if you need the full feature set it has (downloading transactions from the banks, transfers between several different accounts, splitting expenses among multiple categories, etc.).

If you can get by with something more simple, there are lots of alternatives. Sorry, I can't name them, hopefully others will comment on the alternatives for simple situations.
