I bought this on impulse and then was thinking of canceling even though I do a fair bit of auto work for our cars (timing belts, valve adjustments, suspension work). Like others wrote, pulling the bearing is not very common and i think they give you lots of warning. No need to have a specialized tool for an unlikely event.

Then I saw this video from a link in the previous deal. That attachment for a vice grip gave me many ideas around house. Hope it gives you some ideas.

If you've been thinking about getting a slide hammer, just go ahead and buy it at this price. This set is nice and I'd consider the quality to be similar to the much more expensive tool truck version we have at work. One thing I do suggest is grinding the little "hook" attachment to have more of a flat face that is perpendicular to the threads. Also, it's easy to make custom attachments. I believe the shaft has 1/2-20 UNF threads.

I used this very recently to replace both my wheel bearings on my 2010 Honda Odyssey...this was the tool that came to rescue to remove the wheel hub from the bearing when all other things failed....luckily I borrowed it from AutoZone and did not have to buy it.

What doesn't make sense is how you try to justify not buying this while pointing out that you actually need to buy it, You had to drive to borrow a tool 5x and then return said tool 5x, With the cost of fuel and your own time it's a no brainer but if you're not smart enough to buy it by now you're not smart enough to use them. By the way, I've changed 100's of engines over the last few decades and not once needed a slide hammer to get the job done. What could you possible need a slide hammer for?
