That would be the cause of cheap detectors. I have a 12 year old Escort (it cost $300 back then) that still does great (had to replace the suction cups once). But no matter what detector you get, once that laser hits your windshield, front license plate, etc, it's over.
Wow I didn't know they made these things anymore. Last time I saw one was an ad in the back MotorTrent magazine probably 10 years ago. Think the guys name was Valentine.
Do they finally work or still just a bunch of false alarms?

Great unit. At one time this was the best. The R4 is basically this with twice the range and bluetooth support (with a firmware update). Worth the upgrade if you can find it but you can't go wrong with this as your first detector.

You can program it for alarms that you pass by. Just understand what the alarms are. Have never had a false alarm for a cop. It has like a 2 mile range so expect hits on cars you can't see. It has been great for me for 5 years now. Just don't leave it out in your car in freezing temps. Messed up my screen.

I had an escort. It got destroyed in the Arizona heat. Not worth it to keep having to take it off and plug it in.

Uniden's upper range radars have always been better than Valentines. Lol!

Would look at a newer model for location based ignore. Let's you block e.g. Supermarket doors from triggering K band.
