Not a bad price. But if you can spend a little more and have a Sam's Club membership, the R4 is for $289.

That would be the cause of cheap detectors. I have a 12 year old Escort (it cost $300 back then) that still does great (had to replace the suction cups once). But no matter what detector you get, once that laser hits your windshield, front license plate, etc, it's over.

get the R7.. it has arrows, and tell you where the cops are.

How long in miles is this "long range?" How do we know the local police have longer range radars making the detection too late?

The detection zone depends on a lot of things (topography, weather, other cars/trucks in the area) but this unit will get you more than sufficient range (about a mile away if a cop is running always on). There are no long range radars for cops they have to see who they are reading. He can't clock a high reading from a bike away and then you show up and he guesses if it was you or the car next to you. Also he needs to shoot the radar and get it back to get a reading, what you need is just to catch any of the stray waves that haven't bounced off anything and went back. This unit will alert you of the cop long before he knows you are there.

Valentine is notoriously chatty unless you tune it quite a bit. I bought one around 2013 and returned it for that reason. It even gave you an alert if there was a cheap leaky detector next to you with "J" alert for junk. Which is really dumb since it could have just ignored it since it knows it's not a real alert.

Haven't had that issue with uniden and they run pretty silent once you know what cops run around you and how to set it for you environment.

- When powering up the unit with the display set Off; as per the R7, there is now an initial onscreen warning.

K Narrow revision:
- This has been updated to allow the K narrow to be customised more easily during the build process. The default K narrow for USA / Canada remains as 24.080-24.200.
However, if you need an alternative K narrow, this can now be built into the firmware more easily so it can be requested anywhere within 24.050-24.250
None of these are killer features, but they make the R3 a very enjoyable device to use. Biggest advantage is the feature to not alert for vehicle radar. Even without the firmware it takes minimal effort to set up a R3 to almost never have false alarms.
