My two cents. Booked my family of 4 on spirit to Cancun last week. Flight was cancelled the night before. No explanation whatsoever. Next flight out with them was fully booked too, so we had to pay $$$ to book with another carrier same day. Still haven't even gotten our refunds yet.

Spirit is great when everything goes right. But when things go wrong as they inevitably do, you're farked.

next time just add the bag via the app. you can do that last minute, even once you've already checked in. it's cheaper.

Looks like Frontier in Atlanta is also matching some of the dates in addition to going beyond March 6.

Also Pro Tip: If you're able to purchase Spirit or Frontier tickets at the airport they will waive the online Passenger Usage Fee. It can vary per flight but it's usually $22 each ticket and per segment/layover.

So for example I had a flight from Atlanta to Seattle for $74. There was a layover in Las Vegas so that took an additional $22 off on top of the standard airport discount. In total I paid about $60 roundtrip.

Flying from an airport that has multiple flights to your destination, or booking an itinerary that won't cost you an arm and a leg if you're late/miss it. EG don't book a huge non-refundable all inclusive package/cruise/whatever and then buy a discount plane ticket that may cause you to forfeit some or all of the continuation of the trip on the other end. Or buy trip insurance.
1. There is no safeguard to predict whether your flight will be late.
2. Trip insurance does not guarantee getting to your destination on time.
3. The people who bought non-refundable tickets arrive at the same time as the people who bought refundable or first class tickets.
4. If flights to your destination are full on every airline, nothing can be done, even if you have trip insurance.
5. If you live in Waterloo, Iowa or Richmond, Virginia, there are never multiple flights to a destination.
6. Depending on the airline, if your flight is late and you miss a connection, you may be confirmed or placed on stand-by for the next flight.

The advice you've given is useless. This site has had numerous posts with non-refundable flights and discounted packages, now you're saying don't book "non-refundable all-inclusive" packages? Those are the ones you save money with. Isn't that why we're here? If it isn't non-refundable, it's always more expensive.

True but you have to be lucky you'll catch them. THey purposely have shitty hours if they're even available that day

Preferred ticketing hours:
Daily:
7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

I guess it really depends where you are located.

I'm in Atlanta so they usually have someone at the desk all day.

The non-refundable nature of the flight has nothing to do with it, nor did I ever bring it up. The point is either fly from an airport where you have options, be prepared to take the L, or buy insurance, as most insurance will cover ALL the lost costs of missing the trip due to the airline. These bottom tier airlines have way more cancellations and way less backup options than the big carriers, that's why they're cheap. My post was to remind/notify those that may not have thought about it or experienced it that there are pitfalls they may not have considered about these cheap flights. Just because YOU think it's useless doesn't make it so.

Are you the same big mike who wrote the following? "Quote from big mike :

You have trouble remembering your own words? Read it again where you said "non-refundable" but told me you never mentioned it. I tried to correct your misguided statement because I worked for an airline for 27 years and have actually dealt with airline tickets and contracted all-inclusive resorts. Telling people not to book a flight or package because you might miss a flight or your flight may be cancelled is doomsayer nonsense.

You apparently have trouble with reading comprehension and acting civil. I said non-refundable all inclusive/cruise not plane tickets. The plane ticket cost is the least of your worries with the airlines in question.

I do not recommend doing this. As I have been screwed over by spirit by this same thing. At the airline it cost more to check in the bags. When I went online they denied my credit due to "unfortunate error, please try again." Even with multiple different credit cards. Maybe they read my data and saw my location at the airport and their website purposefully blocked me, idk. But either way, this is just one of the laundry list of issues flying with spirit. I will never fly Spirit, ever. Even if the ticket cost is more than double. I'd rather fly with pigeons strapped to my chest than this useless company.

It isn't Spirit planes that have doors flying off midflight, missing bolts in the wings, or wheels falling off and rolling down the runway.

True... Spirit just can't get the plane in the air to ever find those issues!

Regardless, these low prices are likely an attempt to get fast cash to mitigate their Chapter 11 losses for the next person taking over. Good luck

Their fleet of Airbus planes are doing way better at flying than everyone else with Boeing right now.

Not a bad idea considering the way things are going here
