I have both, and the main advantage of the 4 is the motor is significantly quieter when cycling. IMO that alone is worth it if this is going in a space where you could hear it. If it's going in an otherwise empty area like basement then I'd get the 3 and save the money.
This is the first day after the $100 store credit offer expired (40k treats points), but they've also cut back cash back sites from ~20% yesterday to ~6% today. So while this is the lowest cash price you can get, it's not quite the best deal... though who knows if they'll ever bring the treats offer back.
Note that if you use Paypal, PetSmart may only refund you store credit if you decide to return this, per their T&C. They also do not offer the 90 day in home trial you'd get directly from Whisker, so a bit more of a risk if your cats don't have Litter Robot experience -- some cats refuse to use it.

the lowest i've seen was this past early December, but not in cash fashion. There was a petsmart offer of points back equivalent to $100 for newly signed up account, and chase offer for 7% back, and perks at work had 20x points back for petsmart (30x if 5star status; or just pay $50 for the 5star status).
at the end it comes out to be 700 * (1-0.07-0.2) - 100 = $411.0 with non-5-star status; or 700 * (1-0.07-0.3) - 100 = $341 with 5star status; or to just pay $50 for the 5 star status upgrade making it $391.
it was basically: get a perks at work account if you don't have via work; there are invite links you can find on internet if you spend some time with Google. Pay them $50 to get to 5star status to unlock the 30x points back from petsmart. Register a new petsmart acount and activate that 40k ($100) points back for litter robot. go to chase and activate 7% petsmart for all your cards; buy gift cards to maximize the cash back limit for each card's offer. then turn off ad block etc., click petsmart link via the perk at work site, log in with that account with activated LR offer, check out with gift cards that came from chase offers.
checked my perks at work history and it was 12/3/2023 when i took advantage of that 20x (30x) points back.
that 20x (30x) points back for petsmart has happened few times, so one can "camp" on that site once a while until the next one pops up, if not in rush for the LR.

is there any truth to this? I own a litter robot myself and their warranty shipped me a brand new base when the first one was fried in a power surge
