Costco has $60 or $100 off a set of Bridgestone tires, valid 2/28/2024 to 4/9/2024. If you are not a Costco member, Discount Tire should price match.

Discount Tire matches not only the tire price but the free installation as well, at least they have for me the past two sets of tires I've purchased. They looked at the out the door price from Costco and adjusted their price accordingly.
Costco also includes rotation and balancing for 5 years. Which unless you are driving less than 5k miles a year, is pretty much the whole life of the tire.
Plus it includes road hazard for those 5 years as well. DT that is extra. Im not saying Costco beats DT on every tire they share but after fees usually Costco ends up slightly better.

Costco in NJ are always busy busy busy. Even for a rotation, I typically walk over to a strip mall, get a haircut, grab some lunch and then still have time for a leisurely stroll thru Costco which can be dangerous. My only longtime complaint is that they should get rid of the silly nitrogen BS and pass the savings along to us. I think it was the top bullet point on their little poster if I recall.

It's highly YMMV.

Here in CT, Costco tire appts are usually quick. Even new tire installs might take 1-1.5 hours (if you have an appt). I usually arrange an appt such that I can go shopping while waiting so the time isn't a loss.

Honestly what am I missing here about tires? By every metric, my tires which are 205/60R16, the norm for a lot of different crossovers and small SUVs, are substantially cheaper through a brand from Discount Tire or Big O Tire than the Bridgestone are through Costco even with the discount. And by any reviews and quality online, something like the Ohtsu P7000 or the Westlake RP18s have comparable performance for 50% less. They have maybe 25% lower warranty, but the savings is still better if you look at it as $1/mile of warranty. And Discount Tire has a billion locations, Costcos number in the hundreds, with wider hours of operation. What am I getting wrong here? Shouldn't we be trying to get the best performance for the lowest cost?

Just make sure you are comparing apples to apples.

By that I mean that you should make sure the various options are comparable. We don't have DTD around here, we have Town Fair Tire (regional chain). Every time I am in the market for tires I do a comparison on price and it usually winds up to be Costco vs. TFT. Costco includes a longer road hazard than TFT; TFT upcharges for it. TFT includes free front wheel alignment, Costco doesn't do alignments at all. TFT tends to upcharge for all sorts of small things, TPMS, disposal, balancing, etc, Costco does not. Each time Costco comes out ahead on price, not even factoring in my 2x2% discount. Might not sound like much but for an SUV tires might be like $1200 so 4% is almost $50.
