Plus it includes road hazard for those 5 years as well. DT that is extra. Im not saying Costco beats DT on every tire they share but after fees usually Costco ends up slightly better.

It will only get worse when they are unionized. The workers have the skill set similar to any department store employee but are paid higher, like In and Out employees. Their service suffers

But isn't discount tire a full no cost replacement where as costco is a prorated replacement.

I needed to replace all four of my tires at the beginning of January. I first went to Costco and got some quotes, then took those quotes down to DT. They slightly undercut Costco's prices and had me out of there in 45 minutes. Great experience. No disrespect intended to Costco as I'm a loyal member of them and have nothing but good experiences with them. Just Discount Tires won the day for me on this.
I hate DT. They don't even patch your tires anymore for free. They have a million excuses to not touch it, but instead try to sell you new ones.

If you have an older car (pre 1990s) and don't have any of the newer technology then never mind just get a similar tire than looks good.

Thanks for the details. I wasn't aware of the reasons but have always insisted on changing both tires per axle at a time.
This time I'm in a unique situation. It's a 2017 vehicle that I changed all 4 tires about under 5k miles ago.
I'm selling the car now and 1 became irreparable, so I put on the best of the 4 older tires I had removed.
I'm thinking with such low mileage on the 3 new good ones, I can just replace that 1 tire before the buyer comes out to look at it, so there isn't room for them to negotiate me down.
Plus, I'll feel better with 1 new tire, than the 1 old tire, if I drove until it sold.

I came here to mention this. Costco discount is prorated based on the wear of the tire while DT is a full replacement regardless of wear.
I always go with DT now because I can "buy" one more tire to complete a front or rear set and save the other worn tire as a spare.
