I really want to buy one (to use Amex Platinum credits), but probably won't due to Inspiron hinges being prone to breaking off: https://www.dell.com/community/en...a8dee106d7

I mean, there are like 4-5 deals posted separately and they probably all share the same problem. There are some data points that 7630 Inspirons (16 Plus) might be OK, but I'm not sure about 5630/5635s (this deal is for a 5635).

I'm going to pass, not worth the risk when there are so many other options out there

The only reason I'm following these Dell deals is I have multiple Amex Business Platinums which give $200 every 6 months, so a laptop on sale would be a nice way to burn those credits vs. buying overpriced accessories.

I'm in the same boat, 2 Amex credit cards, $400 every 6 months. Overpriced accessories seem to be the norm for me too. I did just buy Quickbooks online for a few hundred. I haven't used it yet (still using desktop version) but I'm hoping it will be something I like so I have something to buy annually I actually need in life.

No. Lol. SlickDeals is full of people who hear that some people have had a problem with something, so therefore it happens to nearly everyone. They wouldn't keep selling these things if it was a common problem. Every single product line ever created has had some bad ones mixed in.

Yes. My last one's hinge broke and my current one's hinge broke.

Unfortunately these hinge issues are all too common especially on plastic only builds. At this price there are other options.

So, because it happened to you twice, it's common on all of them? Lol. It could happen to you 100 times in a row, and that still wouldn't mean it's common. That would mean you have had terrible experiences. I swear, the "logic" people use on SlickDeals is unreal.

And they stopped selling it… That's not the great argument you thought it was.
