All laptops, even the metal ones, the hinge will break if the laptop is not opened from the center every time. Nowadays, if you open any laptop from the corner it puts too much tension on the back cover and the hinge, which will cause the back or palmrest to snap. It's a metal screw into plastic basically so what do you think will happen. Every metal laptop still has plastic glued to the inside where the hinge is attached. So, a metal laptop is just metal on the outside but plastic inside where everything is attached. Everyone wants a light weight laptops so this is what you get now.

Same as USB-C ports which are horrible and go bad after a year and a half if used for power. That's why almost every laptop has two because the companies know they fail but people want them. A power jack which usually is a jack and cable can be easily replaced but USB-C ports are soldered on the motherboard so when they go bad, the motherboard will need to be replaced, unless you know anyone that will solder new USB-C ports on, which is not easy to find.

I have seen less than 1% of laptops when the USB-C ports are on a daughter board but until that happens I wouldn't go with USB-C as the power jack. Good example, MacBook Air - USB-C is easy to replace but the expensive MacBook Pro is soldered on the motherboard. I just saw a Dell Latitude where the USB-C ports were on a daughter board but not a common thing yet and until it's more common I would stay away from USB-C ports used for power.

I mean, there are like 4-5 deals posted separately and they probably all share the same problem. There are some data points that 7630 Inspirons (16 Plus) might be OK, but I'm not sure about 5630/5635s (this deal is for a 5635).

The only reason I'm following these Dell deals is I have multiple Amex Business Platinums which give $200 every 6 months, so a laptop on sale would be a nice way to burn those credits vs. buying overpriced accessories.

I'm in the same boat, 2 Amex credit cards, $400 every 6 months. Overpriced accessories seem to be the norm for me too. I did just buy Quickbooks online for a few hundred. I haven't used it yet (still using desktop version) but I'm hoping it will be something I like so I have something to buy annually I actually need in life.
