So, because it happened to you twice, it's common on all of them? Lol. It could happen to you 100 times in a row, and that still wouldn't mean it's common. That would mean you have had terrible experiences. I swear, the "logic" people use on SlickDeals is unreal.
You're very special. Upthread there's a link to a post where a bunch of people talk about broken hinges. If you do a Google search you can see a lot of places where people talk about the broken hinges they have, from the manufacturer's own web site to Reddit to computer help forums. On top of that, I have had the issue.

But you're right, it must not be that common, use your own customized "logic" and enjoy your purchase. Have a great day!

No. Lol. SlickDeals is full of people who hear that some people have had a problem with something, so therefore it happens to nearly everyone. They wouldn't keep selling these things if it was a common problem. Every single product line ever created has had some bad ones mixed in.
I bought one just over a year ago for my mom (warranty is up). The right hinge just completely broke and also messed up the bezel around .the screen.

All laptops, even the metal ones, the hinge will break if the laptop is not opened from the center every time. Nowadays, if you open any laptop from the corner it puts too much tension on the back cover and the hinge, which will cause the back or palmrest to snap. It's a metal screw into plastic basically so what do you think will happen. Every metal laptop still has plastic glued to the inside where the hinge is attached. So, a metal laptop is just metal on the outside but plastic inside where everything is attached. Everyone wants a light weight laptops so this is what you get now.

Same as USB-C ports which are horrible and go bad after a year and a half if used for power. That's why almost every laptop has two because the companies know they fail but people want them. A power jack which usually is a jack and cable can be easily replaced but USB-C ports are soldered on the motherboard so when they go bad, the motherboard will need to be replaced, unless you know anyone that will solder new USB-C ports on, which is not easy to find.

I have seen less than 1% of laptops when the USB-C ports are on a daughter board but until that happens I wouldn't go with USB-C as the power jack. Good example, MacBook Air - USB-C is easy to replace but the expensive MacBook Pro is soldered on the motherboard. I just saw a Dell Latitude where the USB-C ports were on a daughter board but not a common thing yet and until it's more common I would stay away from USB-C ports used for power.

Warranty wouldn't cover it anyway because it's considered normal wear and tear or accidental damage. I've had customers where the back cover broken from the hinge after only 4 months and no company will cover it under warranty. The big computer companies don't care and they know people will go out and buy another one.

Years ago when a battery swelled after a year and a half the computer companies would replace them for free due to the laptop being unsafe and could catch fire but now all the computer companies say it's normal wear and tear and the customer has to buy a replacement battery just because the computer company used a badly made cheap battery in their systems.

No computer company cares anymore because everyone has to have a computer. So, the computer companies will make money no matter what, someone will always be buying a new one from them.

I guess I should enter the lotto at those odds. I have 4 laptops of different brands that I exclusively charge via USB-C (2 of which are work and on/plugged in at least 8hrs a day, if not more) and they all last far more than 1.5yrs (~3-4 years and counting).

Bought same laptop and just get the refund. Appreciated for the post.
This is a great laptop and will buy one more if needed. The ram is solder on board and cannot be upgraded. It is a 16 inch, just be careful to flip on the screen each time use. It is a great deal.

The HDMI port is only v.1.4 and no display port support on USB-C on a Dell 7 series laptop?
