an almost perfect laptop (decent cpu, great amount of disk and ram, wifi6e, decent gpu, 1080p webcam, 2.5K resolution) ruined by terrible decisions made on the keyboard. not only it doesn't have a numeric keypad, but some important keys are hidden within the fn keys. all that wasted empty space, they could have added a lot of keys.

if you don't care about the keyboard then by all means get this

Crazy that dell won't even acknowledge and fix this, especially on machines under warranty. This may have been resolved in the current 7630 machines, but the problem now seems to be heat and fans making a ton of noise during moderate use. I was considering buying one with the integrated GPU just to avoid this since I don't do any gaming, but it's $750 for 16/1 gig/integrated vs only $250 more for 32/2/4060 which makes the former sound like a mediocre deal.

What about 5630 models? They are on sale for $400-$480 but I don't want to spend even that much if it's going to break in 2 years.

it says there hinge will be repaired as long as it's under the warranty period and the customer didn't cause the damage. it's not clear if the poster got a resolution as they 8 months later said " they contacted support"

Not sure I'd gamble on any Inspiron's making it more than a couple of years without a structural problem based on what I see online. I'd probably be looking at Lenovo or ASUS instead right now, but I have that $200/semester amex biz credit with Dell to burn.

Any known problem with the model? And what about the battery life?

I actually prefer the no number pad, since it aligns the keyboard with the screen. But I can see how it's an issue for some.

Display is also 120Hz by the way. Dell does not mention it in the product page directly, not sure why. Check the below review

The 4060 on this also only has 60W TDP. Great decisions by Dell on this one

Looks like they added thicker hinges for this model. May help avoid the previous drama.
